I think it's too late now @jim25 - once registered on zwiftpower you need to link your strava account. Should work from then on.

Oh didn't reliase it wouldn't work without that. Is that the only way to see race results then? What about the people that don't link their strava account? Are there other included on the results?

First real go today... FTP test for first ride. Managed to hold around 195 - 200w for the 20 minutes. Not feeling too fit! Any tips for managing your output over the 20 minutes - I was thinking of aiming for the same HR I have on a similar length climb near here where I can sustain around 168 for the duration (aged 51)..... I did wander up to 175 at time but that was my undoing about 10 minutes in! I may need a big dose of MTFU ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice one weeksy!

Set myself a 2017 challenge: to average 20 miles a day. I think it'll be much easier to attain now with Zwift!

HR of 165 is my "pop" point currently (I'm your age FWIW). FTP was about 3 w/kg but that had gone up from about 2.5 over a few rides; you definitely learn where your perceived limits are. Not sure what you do to raise them but I think you may be right - ignoring the wish to slow down probably counts for quite a lot but I'm not great at that. I'd never had a HRM before I started this a couple of months ago so I've some learning to do there

Was looking to push mine up a bit but came over all manflu poorly in mid-Dec and just getting back to proper pedaling now. Suspect I'll be needing a while just to get back to that level

Well played Weeksy!

Racey question: how do you know who's in the race and who's not ?

Was odd watching that race as every now & then somebody doing intervals or something would smash through and ride off, then sometimes disappear at the end of their ride

Yes. Whilst riders who are not racing can be in your group, they don't show on your list.

When you gave me the ride on, there were 5 riders, but only 4 of us were racing, at that moment we were all recovering on a random guys wheel.

The rider/avatar exists, but you're aware they're not a direct competitor.

If you're in the race then the "nearby riders" panel only shows other people in your race. If you're not in the race (or just watching) I don't want think there's any way of knowing who's in which race

Ah, right - but if somebody shot past at 350 watts you could grab their wheel and ride away ? (I accept that's easier to say than do)

... and the other way round, I've thought about jumping into what looks like a race bunches going past but felt like that could be disruptive - I could slow down and bugger up anyone expecting me to hold the wheel in front ?

Yep, any wheel is fair game! Can be very handy when you're otherwise alone in your race!

I wouldn't worry about your second point, personally I'm very aware of who's in the race and who isn't, like you say the randoms can be handy but can't be relied upon!

I've occasionally got into race groups. Once I was in workout mode which had me shootingpastthe group, dropping back while recovering then shooting past again. Not intentional but on erg mode it was hard to stop doing it!

I still haven't actually raced. I've only recently started doing group rides as last winter I mainly followed the FTP builder and didn't do many less structured sessions. I did the ODZ Divaz ride last night which was good fun. Will aim to do some racing at some point.

shame they can't make that visually obvious (I haven't done a race; maybe it's not a problem but I couldn't tell by looking at weeksy's group which one was him other than shirt colour after his name had popped up) - different colour rear light, for example ?

Im really enjoying it so far. Finding it difficult to resist going on for the 3rd time today!

The racing is tough, although more like a TT effort than a normal bunch race as there aren't really any lulls and big accelerations in pace around corners etc. Think it is going to be ideal for threshold work, something that i've always struggled with mentally.

Ideally, folk will have changed their Surname to include their team, the race tag and category as in "Surname [TFC] KISS (B)"
Since the launch of the event module and starting pens, people tend to join via the App rather than through FB so the instructions don't always get followed as much.

Switchable courses are in the pipeline- when that happens, I can see race organisers trying to find the quietest routes for races. At the moment, they can't even select the reverse course options.

Is zwift down for anyone else?

When I try logging on from the shortcut on my laptop I get a "check internet connection" screen pop up. Internet is fine.

There were over 500 people in this evenings sub 2.0 ride, think the numbers have crashed it as it booted me out without allowing a save and now won't let me back in.

Any ideas?

It's been down for me for an hour, tried logging in for a ride, sat spinning watching the twitter feed to see if it would get sorted then gave up and used the Tacx app for a fairly boring 40 mins at 70% FTP.

According to the twitter feed anyone entered in the ride to win a Drivo will still be entered in the draw (I wasn't even aware the competition was running!).

The Login server failed apparently. Over 600 people signed in to the Sub2 prize draw group ride and Computer said No ๐Ÿ˜€

It last happened for the Tacx World championship race where hundreds joined in but I'm surprised they've let themselves get caught out again.

I gave up after an hour, got changed, sat back down on the sofa and then tried on my phone app one last time and logged in straight away ๐Ÿ˜€
Ah well, all good training weeks start with Monday recovery ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well at least its not just me.

I was unaware of the Drivo draw as well, just entered an after dinner sub 2.0.

Chucked me out at the start, allowed me back in (but not in the event) a couple of minutes later, gave chase at a fair old pace and never caught a group, thought I would have caught them by the end of the first lap but just un-named riders all over the place.

Just managed to get back in now but all the riders are still un-named.

Hopefully won't become a victim of its success.

I got onto the ZZRC event, over 655 people were on it and although the ride etc went ok there were no names on any of the riders and the text messages were blacked out and unreadable.

As usual though the sub 2.0w/kg ride had an average w/kg for me of nearly 3w/kg as people got carried away.

Was that with the ride leader or did you go off the front with a group?

Don't get me started on non-race group rides defined by W/kg ๐Ÿ˜€
For some bizarre reason, the Zwift community adopted it as a descriptor of pace long long ago.
This is despite the fact that without knowing the weight and FTP of the ride leader- a w/kg based 'pace' tells me nothing about the predicted speed or intensity of the ride.

For example, I have done a Sub 3 ride at a lower average wattage than most of the Sub 2.5 and a few Sub 2.0's because the ride leader was a 50 odd kg woman!

Why they don't include an average speed metric somewhere on the display I don't know.

The 'fit but over 100kg still' Ride leaders are the worst culprits- 2.5 for them leaves many lighter blokes taking to FB to vent their anger at yet another group ride spoilt ๐Ÿ˜‰

Looks like they're starting to mix up the rules a bit:

**NEW Categories**
Please select the correct category below (Your FTP divided by your weight in kg) -
(A) 4.1+ w/kg FTP
(B) 3.5 - 4.09 w/kg FTP
(C) 2.9 - 3.49 w/kg FTP
(D) 0 - 2.89 w/kg FTP
(20 minute power will also be used for results in conjunction with wkg for Flat routes.)
(No categories required for DeCat Race)

Not sure what difference the wkg and 20 min power thing does though?!

You should contact Rob Bolt about your power being close to limits Nath- Robs a good guy and will be very accommodating (he was part of the original TFC series). Mention me if you like....

greentricky - trying to catch the ride leader. I was a couple of seconds late setting off but by no means the last (was faffing with the fan) and after that it was pretty much a 35km TT and never saw the leader again.

Cheers, I'm part of his racing team "BRT", have been chanting to him on Facebook about it. Rules are rules though, I think my equipment was malfunctioning slightly when I breached the 5.0w/kg. I'm hoping that I'll be there though in a couple of months, it's on my 2017 bucket list (along with a point on my racing licence ๐Ÿ˜† ), getting closer each week http://www.zwiftpower.com/profile.php?id=8544067

@weeksy - I'm on the reserves for the next two weeks unfortunately, booked in from there onwards though.
@crosshair - I'm hoping the point as I've not yet organised a power meter ๐Ÿ˜†

Either of you there soon? (Slightly of topic)

Oof, just done my six weekly Zwift FTP test and I'm down ~5% ๐Ÿ™
Not sure whether that's over-indulgence or fatigue from too many races over the holiday period!

Are you turning up on the 14th, or waiting for an email confirmation?

5% isn't too bad. I'd probably rest up/very light duties for a couple of days before an FTP test.

I set my rollers up with the Misuro B+ sensor last night so I should now get speed, cadence and power from them. I'm a bit unsure as to the effectiveness though as my rollers are non-resistance.

Has anyone else got any experience of using a similar set up?

Quick question for the Zwifters.

How do the workouts work with the mobile link thing? What do you see on the mobile link display? Does it show you targets and timers etc. when doing intervals?

I'm not actually sure. As far I'm aware, only the main screen shows you those things. The end of an interval is also demarked by a virtual archway above the road.
It does allow you to skip forward or backwards to the next or previous stage of the workout though- I know that much.

I can test later...

Thanks crosshair. Be good if it did show you the timing of the intervals no the mobile link.

Another couple of questions. When using workout mode with a smart trainer, if you're doing an interval and the terrain goes uphill does Zwift still change the resistance to simulate the hill?

Also anyone running the mobile link on an old iPhone 4? Does it work ok?

@mrblobby - resistance stays as per the workout, your virtual guys speed is adjusted accordingly as far as i'm aware. Mobile link should work on iphone 4+ (I think the 3 has just had support removed from apple)
