In light of that fantastic live wildlife camera in Alaska thread, what would you say is your favourite wild animal?
Any species, as particular as you want. Pictures please.
For good reason, I am quite partial to a number of the animals that could be found in Canada, but while animals like the timber wolf and woodland bison run close behind, for me, it ultimately has to be the humble black bear. Strong, wide-ranging, hardy.

Sharks, Polar Bears, Otters.
In the sky, the golden eagle.
On the ground, the common or garden badger, none of your posh honey badger nonsense.
In the water, octopus. Clever, almost alien creatures.
im a big fan of animals in general (and i eat none of them).
as far a stuff i see whilst biking in the uk - a yellowhammer always makes me smile - lovely little things...

was very fortunate to see wild bears, caribou, coyote, bald eagles moose and wolves whilst I was in Canada. didn't get to see a mountain lion though, shame.

Proper favourites are Orca, and Raven, an incredibly smart animal, reckoned to be as intelligent as a seven year old human, able to count, are self-aware, and when flying often do aerobatics, seemingly just for the sheer joy of flying.

Sadly they are currently categorised as [i]critically endangered[/i] due to, yes you guess it, the Chinese treating them as a delicacy/using for medicine.
Up to 100,000 pangolins are estimated to be hunted and sold every year, making them the most traded wild animal in the world.The meat is considered a delicacy in China, Vietnam and other parts of south-east Asia, while the scales are prized for traditional medicine.Researchers warned last year that the Chinese pangolin is in danger of being “eaten to extinction” because of huge demand.
Roasted pangolin scales are believed to cure cancer, relieve palsy and even stimulate breast milk.
A study last year of seized goods since 2010 found 2.59 tonnes of scales representing approximately 4,870 pangolins, along with 259 intact creatures – 220 were living and 39 were dead.
The demand has seen prices rocket from £8.50 for a kilogramme of scales in 1990s to more than £360 today.
The increasingly lucrative trade is driving poachers to capitalise by snaring the creatures in forests and sometimes feeding them gravel to increase their weight and value.

Love pine martens.
I"m a bit of a river fisherman so regularly see the usual indigenous wild animals,always makes my day to see a Kingfisher though,so pretty.
See Otters occasionally too,always a treat despite them decimating the fish stocks.
Had a wonderful 10 minutes of interacting with a couple of juvenile Mink last week,they were very inquisitive to the extent that I could have reached out and touched them-I didnt though,as theyre ferocious little swines !

I've been 2 metres away from a Tiger in the wild face to face. They are massive. It's a good story, but in a nutshell: if you want to eat me there is nothing I can do about it. Luckily he/she turned and vanished. Later that day I narrowly avoided being kidnapped by terrorists and it didn't end there...
I think large birds of prey in the high mountains and small UK birds make me very happy. Got some Goldcrests in the garden atm and I never tire of watching them.

Bataleur eagle, essentially a bird without a tail...its the agile fighter of the bird world, unstable. As it grows up the tail gets shorter and shorter, so as the bird learns how to fly it loses it's stabilisers...
CG, do you know that Musk Ox aren't really Oxen, they're more like sheep...really massive, really hairy, really angry Pleistocene sheep....
nick - yes yes, I know that they're not cuddly creatures and weigh up to 800 pounds. Just find them fascinating, in an odd sort of way.
Impossible to pick an absolute favourite but I've always loved cats; particular favourites would be Snow Leopards and Scottish Wild cats and my wife and I were particularly delighted to see both the the Highland Wildlife Park when we had a a week in Inverness last December.
I also have a particular soft spot for Cephlapods (Octopi, squid, cuttlefish etc.); remarkable creatures with amazing abilities to change shape, texture and colour (clever too).

Pallas Cat. Kinda funny lookin', fuzzy face, smelly, grumpy. I feel a strange connection somehow.
Rhinos and elephants are totally awesome.
Also love apes and primates.
And you can't beat tapirs and in the sea manatees. Ooh and seals.
Yeah, all wild animals really.
All of nature is awesome.
Even wasps and hornets are awesome although I have a profound and deep routed dislike for the picnic/al fresco dining wrecking buggers.
Seen in the real world
Acquatic = Orcas, dolphins and harbour porpoise
Land = Deer especially a majestic stag or an adder
Air = Barn owl
In zoo - blooming great snakes, especially big constrictors.
Nothing more elemental than deer, close up and unexpected.
Elephants are my favourite though.
You lot do know that choice of favourite animal is well known to reflect preferences in choice or partner, don't you?

I saw a bloke hit a full grown boar on the motorway once. Car was a massive mess, the boar wasn't that smashed up (it was dead mind).
How about this. Maned wolf. Lives in grasslands and leaps onto prey.
