Ok it's not a song but it is beautiful.

Anything by emmy the great.
sweet innocent voice with poignant lyrics in a folky style
EDIT: her latest stuff is Shyte
King Creosote is a good shout. Paupers Dough can reduce me to tears, for some reason it reminds me of a dearly missed friend. Your Young Voice and My Favourite Girl are good too. Actually most of his stuff does it for me, his voice and the production, it's really raw and so rare these days to hear something that hasn't been overproduced.
This stuff
The Raconteurs - Together
Gomez - Free to Run
Emiliana Torini - Love in a Time of Science (album)
Air - You Make it Easy
Motzart laudate dominum
Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence.
Then when you want it a bit louder, the The Disturbed version.
Both equally beautiful IMO.
Many songs (or even entire albums) by The National.
Power of Love - Frankie. Teenage slow-dance heaven.
Zappa's Watermelon in Easterhay.
Little Feat's Voices On The Wind
I will enter Sarah McLachlan’s album Surfacing, especially Do What You Have to Do.
This is a great thread!
Kate rugby, blooming heather.
The White Buffalo, could have picked so many! Went for wish it were true.
Finally, the Wilderness of Manitobia, nothings ever said.
What is Love? Howard Jones.
BRMC. The Line. The song starts fairly meh but it transforms about 3 mins in.
The breeders - driving on nine
Sting (yeah, I know!) - I'm so happy I can't stop crying.
Paramore, the album is “after laughter” the track is “26” and it’s just lovely.,,
Some fantastic shouts, plus ones on Eno's Ending and Mitchell's Both Sides, and I too shall check out everything else what I don't know (which is most stuff). My ha'porth worth are Battery Human by Stornaway and Claire De Lune by Debussey.
Acoustic version of sound of silence always gets me. The live version even more so
+1 Song To The Siren, This Mortal Coil
Wraps & Arms - Gene Loves Jezebel
She Moves Through The Fair - All About Eve
The Sound Of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
Can't beat a bit of shoegaze for beautiful songs.

And then still on a 90s tip...

More upbeat, but beautiful perfection for me.
Make sure you listen beyond 2:20.
Or staying with Simon and Garfunkel:
"I get the news I need from the weather report"
Some great shouts so far. OP mentioned Lamb. I prefer their track Gorecki from a beautiful standpoint.
Massive Attack, Terry Callier, Groove Armada, and Gil Scott Her on are good shouts. I would add
DJ Shadow and Richard Ashcroft - Lonely Souls
Seba- So Long
Zero 7 - Warm Sound
4 Hero - Les Fleurs
Portishead - Glorybox
Not a big fan of Sounds of Silence. However by Paul Simon Hearts and Bones is fantastic. Or perhaps Something so Right.
I'd also suggest the Killers cover of Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet.
good call on this mortal coil and all about eve.
and its partner
However by Paul Simon Hearts and Bones is fantastic.
IMHO the finest album he has ever recorded. Reneé And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War is stunning, as is The Late Great Johnny Ace. All killer, no filler
Talking to my mate over the pub about this thread, and there were two that popped up, with a connection between them:
Kristin Hersh - Your Ghost
Indigo Girls - Kid Fears
Few of my favourites.....
Sebastian Tellier - La Ritournelle
Air -All I Need
Bonobo - Kiara / Eyesdown / Pick Up (almost any of his stuff)
Little Dragons - Twice
Zero 7 - Destiny / Give it Away
Telepopmusik - Breathe
Yuna - Live your life
Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats / Crosses
Avalanches - Since I left you
Craig Armstrong - Balcony scene
Just about any track from either of their two albums would do ..
No 'favourite', but have a good few favourites. Here's one:
'Twice' by Little Dragon
I’m a big Agnes Obel fan.
at the moment this is hitting the spot: Susanne Sundfor...
Nice to see Cowboy Junkies up there...they wrote a song about this guy!

Mason Jennings - Use Your Voice, the whole album. Ray LaMontagne - Can I Stay
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks and Moondance albums.
Bon Iver - For Emma, forever ago, whole album again.
I fell asleep last night listening to Tom Morello’s album. Not chilled as such, but not what you’d expect from him in a good way.
edit - sorry thought thread was stuff to fall asleep to for some reason.
The National - Slow Show
Gaz Coombes - The Girl who Fell to Earth
Embrace - Fireworks
