King Creosote is a good shout.  Paupers Dough can reduce me to tears, for some reason it reminds me of a dearly missed friend.  Your Young Voice and My Favourite Girl are good too.  Actually most of his stuff does it for me, his voice and the production, it's really raw and so rare these days to hear something that hasn't been overproduced.

Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence.

Then when you want it a bit louder, the The Disturbed version.

Both equally beautiful IMO.

This is a great thread!

Kate rugby, blooming heather.

The White Buffalo, could have picked so many! Went for wish it were true.

Finally, the Wilderness of Manitobia, nothings ever said.

Some fantastic shouts, plus ones on Eno's Ending and Mitchell's Both Sides, and I too shall check out everything else what I don't know (which is most stuff). My ha'porth worth are Battery Human by Stornaway and Claire De Lune by Debussey.

Some great shouts so far. OP mentioned Lamb. I prefer their track Gorecki from a beautiful standpoint.

Massive Attack, Terry Callier, Groove Armada, and Gil Scott Her on are good shouts. I would add

DJ Shadow and Richard Ashcroft - Lonely Souls

Seba- So Long

Zero 7 - Warm Sound

4 Hero - Les Fleurs

Portishead - Glorybox

Not a big fan of Sounds of Silence. However by Paul Simon Hearts and Bones is fantastic. Or perhaps Something so Right.

I'd also suggest the Killers cover of Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet.

However by Paul Simon Hearts and Bones is fantastic.

IMHO the finest album he has ever recorded. Reneé And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War is stunning, as is The Late Great Johnny Ace. All killer, no filler

Talking to my mate over the pub about this thread, and there were two that popped up, with a connection between them:

Kristin Hersh - Your Ghost

Indigo Girls - Kid Fears

Mason Jennings - Use Your Voice, the whole album. Ray LaMontagne - Can I Stay

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks and Moondance albums.

Bon Iver - For Emma, forever ago, whole album again.

I fell asleep last night listening to Tom Morello’s album. Not chilled as such, but not what you’d expect from him in a good way.

edit - sorry thought thread was stuff to fall asleep to for some reason.
