Scouse and a builder; no wonder it couldn't be resolved in a civilised manner.

He could have used a decent size digger and done a proper job.

Some of the google "reviews" of the hotel are quite amusing - particularly the nice and airy reception area, etc.

Will his punishment be to be imprisoned in a travel lodge for a week or so? You know, to make an example of him?

If travelodge haven't paid him for money owed, I hope he gets let off. Larger companies often take the piss of small contractors, what is an insignificant amount for them, could be essential for his family.

If you ever have to deal with such crooks who abuse the system knowing they have all the cards, you can understand the frustration that can lead to such behavior.

Travelodge don’t build things they buy them. If he is owed £600 it will be by a medium size subcontractor to the main construction firm more than likely.
Either way though, no way he should “get let off” 🤔

I very much doubt it will be Travelodge that owe him it will be the main contractor, however they are also, as a rule a bunch of ****ers when it comes to final payments/retentions etc etc.
Blokes who like my ground worker have say 10 men on a site who all get paid each Friday, then when it comes to valuation the qs will always try and hold a bit back or argue the toss on some area of work.
We pride ourselves on paying everybody on time for works we are happy with, with some of our subbies even on 7 day terms.

Have I got this right the police turned up after he had done his wrecking spree and run off? Quick response in Liverpool 😂

Not always.

I’ve never, ever underpaid a working mans wage in my career.

When I was working on the roofs a vicar had a new roof put on the vicarage. The vicar refused to pay for it. So after a couple of months of non negotiation we went & took it off. It got in the local paper 😁. The vicar got loads of bad press & all the local builders boycotted him.🤣

Or the subcontractor refuses to complete or make good the shoddy workmanship he's undertaken, failing to deliver what he's contracted to do, because he's bought substandard materials or cut costs on unskilled labour. So the main contractor holds back payment (rightly) meanwhile the subcontractor delays works holding the project to ransom.

Cuts both ways.

The big mercs in the car park? Always the subbies, never the contractors. Not that I'm bitter about my career path 😉

Likewise.

The stuff that doesn’t get paid is the stuff that isn’t due.

Turns out that 'it's more complicated than that';

Mr Pellegrini told the ECHO: "He's had a very, very bad life. He's not an angel; we don't want to portray him as an angel...

"We have been trying to get him help but there's such a long waiting list. It's not down to the health care professionals but it's a lack of resources in Sefton.

"We are not condoning what he did at all; someone could have been seriously hurt and he's not a national hero like some people have been making out.

"He is very troubled and it's something when he has had to do what he did to get the kind of help he needs.

I worked in that building for 10 years when it was Marconi. He’s probably still been more productive than I was.

That’s round the corner from me. Its a minor insignificant blip to Carillion leaving my city with an unfinished hospital and unpaid contractors whilst the directors walked away after cashing in before they went bust. Construction should be a well respected trade instead of something non- academic kids get pushed into.

Same topic kind of but fortunately nothing like this poor guys situation but hypothetical question - if I was to be owed some monies by a builder for a job he didn't have the expertise & knowledge to do but didn't refund £800 for a door he 'purchased' for me - can I do something similar?!

It probably won't help in getting the now near £1200 he owes me after small claims/bailiff costs but I'm sure it would make me feel better

Mate was owed money back in the 80's for a design job. Went to the reception, secretary told hime he was unlikely to be paid. He said "right, I'm having your IBM typewriter then" grabbed it off the desk went to the door pulling the attached computer and monitor off the desk.
He'd never seen a computer in action before.
He put it down and scarpered.

Many people have fund raised for his lost /mislaid wages, the main contractor has said it was all the subcontractors fault, and the main contractor stated no structural damage done, it will be rebuilt and look good bringing in jobs to the area.

The lad in question is now having treatment for health problems in a hospital setting, and will hopefully have the treatment he needs.

Thankfully no one was hurt, but a chap standing behind the nice Hardwood doors at the start of the video was almost injured, as the digger jib smashed them down.

Late payment or non payment in the construction industry is prevelelnt, and just downn the road we have the failed Carillion Royal Liverpool white elephant of a hospital.Built under PFI and failed.

Then (genuinely) good for you perchy, because of how we are set up im at the very sharp end of payments/work done etc. I have subbies come on who constantly moan about reduced payments via the big/medium boys of the industry, they restrict cash flow for the smaller firms who will sometimes go bump because of it and they'll never end up paying more than the minimum to the creditors. Sad state of affairs but it happens.
Seen another angle of the op vid today and the guy who went in initially to try and talk some sense in to the blok3 9n the digger was very lucky to not get hurt.

It’s generally the big guys who are the worst payers in my experience.
My subbing are paid on 28 day terms but there are many occasions when large contractors delay payments by days or weeks and we have to foot the bill. Can be quite a juggle sometimes.
