Ordered something from Amazon, saw it was shipped from the edinburgh depot, thought great, it will be here tomorrow as I am in dundee (60 Miles away).
But no, YODEL think it should go on a round trip of the UK 1st, sending it To Wednesbury in England over 350 miles away.
So instead of travelling 60 miles my package (well 2 packages sent separately, weighing 7kg each) will have travelled over 636 miles!!
I know that YODEL are sponsoring the tour of britain but this is rediculous!!
I think they need to have a good look at their own Environmental policy
lets hope the packages arrive on the same van or else they will have clocked up over 1200 uneccesary miles!!
I though this was going to be a comedy clip of a fat woman dressed as Heidi singing badly. 😥
That may have been the most economical way to ship the parcels.....yours may have been the only consignment from Edinburgh to Dundee. There may have been 1000's waiting to ship from Edinburgh to Wednesbury, and 1000's waiting to ship from Wednesbury to Dundeee. It's a pretty simple* model.
How much do you think P&P would be if every parcel was shipped individually to their destination via the most direct route?
*actually it's not; the TSM problem is pretty unsimple.
A friend had similar problem with Yodel, after a trip round the uk it was returned to the depot. She went to collect and had a bit of rant at an employee and was told that they are to close next month. No surprise by the sound of things
Ha ha, Yodel are TEH AWESUMS when it comes to home deliveries when you're not in. Here's how it works:
- place order
- package doesn't arrive
- wait 4/5 more days
- contact supplier who says courier says a 'not in' card left
- no card left
- go onto yodel website to get contact number
- call yodel who tell you to use tracking service on website
- tracking service needs number off card that wasn't left
- call yodel again wait half hour for answer
- call centre worker impatiently repeats the obscure delivery status code several times before providing mobile number of van driver
- call van driver (clearly in the pub, half-cut) who sounds surprised to receive call but asks when I want him to bring it
- van driver delivers when I ask him to
I think they subcontract the actual delivery bit to random 'men with ven'. Strange business model.
Alot of the Yodel delivery drivers around her are women. The flexible working probably works well for those with kids who don't want to / can't work full time.
Yodel universally known as NoDel. We have deliberately stopped using suppliers who deliver via Yodel as it was costing us customers. Next day usually meant 3 or 4 days and we heard every excuse..... closed, gates locked, gone away, nobody at reception, guard dog, no unit number, no street name.... you name it we heard it. Utterly hopeless, only matched by DPD Delayed Parcel Delivery although to be fair they have improved recently.
I've only had good experiences of being on the receiving end of Yodel deliveries.
And FWIW, it's not unusual for parcels companies/couriers to route through a central hub. Everything Parcel Force goes through their national hub. I assume it's the cheapest/most efficient way for them to do it.
I get a regular delivery from a local print works (12 miles away) and each order travels 420 miles to get to me!
Did offer to go and collect for a small discount - they offered £3 off, as thats all they pay for a 10kg because of the volumes shipped!
I will pay the £3 extra and save an hour and a 24 mile drive.....
