A sad fact but I know nothing about cars, I haven't owned one of my own for 15 years, and the wife has the family motor which is always newish and I've never had to lift a bonnet other than to top up the screen wash. But my old boy is ill and practicality dictates I need car. The vehicle will need to essentially do about 50 miles of a and b road driving each day, and would very rarely need to touch a motorway. It won't need to carry much.
We are down to 2 favourites which are both priced a bit under 2 grand.
1 - y reg ford focus 1.8 zetec, 34,000 miles on it, FSH with yearly services.
2 - 04 Fiat punto 1.2 dynamic 80, 43,000 miles 6 services and had it's engine management thing sorted about 20,000 miles ago.
Both drive fine, no knocking, or pulling, clutch feels fine etc, and both look OK.
Which would you go for?
Thanks
Ford by a mile. Zetecs engines are ace
I'd have the Focus.
I had one, 1.6 52 plate, it went well, drove well and was very reliable 😀
I sold it for £800 and it's still going strong.
Focus focus focus. And focus again. Puntos are ----------- awful. Made of tinfoil and cheese.
Focus
End of thread 😀
Sounds like a minter, hardly done 3,000 miles a year so should be fine
Yep. Focus.
I had a Fiat once, never again.
owed both still got the focus, focus every time
Focus. We've had a Mondeo and a Fusion, with a Punto in between. The Ford's were both a nice place to be, the Punto felt like every journey would be its last!
Hmmm, I'm detecting a trend 😆 thanks all.
Italian cars? 😆 Even if it is a Ferrari? Pui! Pui! Pui!
Ford any day if these two are the only choice.
Mate my y reg petrol focus is still going strong after 134,000 miles.
Ford,
We owned a fiat once, bought new, scrapped with60,000 on the click about six years later, FSH, one careful owner.
We owned a ford one too, bought with 10,000 miles on the clock, sold with 130,000 miles on it a few years later, only paid out for servicing, new discs and tyres every so often.
Also the rather special green of that era focus's is the best.
Plenty of room in the back for bikes
Focus definitely!
i have previously owned a 2004 punto, and currently my wife has a 99 focus, my choice would be the focus by a mile.
its better made, a better drive, and a nicer place to sit than the punto.
it may use a little more fuel, but the difference probably wont be that much tbh.
