Believe me, this sort of thing is a common occurence with re-enactors, the sort of 'discussion' (i.e. arguments, rantings and diktats) had about whether a certain shade of dye was available at X point in Century Y in location Z and whether the social status of individual portrayed would allow him/her to afford said dye - assuming it existed at all!

Explain to me again why i do that hobby?????

Turquoise however, is naturally occuring (its copper) is found in Sinai amongst other places and is very much referred to in Jewish/Biblical literature. Its very much the colour to use for a baby jebus, even if he was to pop up in the middle the old testiment

I'm much more New School/retro. A bunch of us get together at the cricket pitch at weekends, half get into uniforms and the others black up and we reenact the Toxteth Riots, we've got retro tracksuits off eBay and everything, one guy's even got chevette. But he hasn't let us torch it yet, he reckons we should just use some sort of dry ice or smoke machine.

Some of the guys's wives and girlfriends put on a nice spread of sandwiches in the pavilion and at halftime we smash the windows and loot the place.

Not sure about Toxteth riots, but i did spend a weekend re-creating the Battle of Orgreave for Ch4 & got paid £180 for the trouble!
Great fun was had throwing rubber rocks at my mates dressed as riot coppers and smashing ourselves into their shields.

Didn't enjoy running away from the cavalry charge though - and certainly didn't enjoy the next six repetitions of the same 'cos the soddin' camera crews wanted more shots..

..I still get cold shivers when i recall looking over my shoulder into the flared nostrils of a charging horse! 😯
