I see sites like this on a regular basis - one of the joys of doing web design! What's bad is that some companies are happy with this sort of website and just want it google optimising. The mind boggles.

additional plug ins are required to show all content

Thank the heavens.

No, it's cos they don't want to pay overpriced 'web developers' to ponce around coming up with something unnecessarily elaborate that will cost them loads of money. If simple works, then fine. What more d'you need? I mean, many folk on here are appalling dressers with no sense of style whatsoever, but think what they wear is ok, and who is anyone to argue with that really?

Elfin I get what you're saying but none of the sites we do are elaborate or overpriced.. nice and clean/simple and look a lot better than the previous ones. They still function mostly the same as the old ones but just give a much better image.

Agreed, but there is a difference between simple and just plain bad. A plain bad website with no real thought behind it would put me off using their service or buy something from them - to me it's a reflection of their company.

This is the website for long defunct Brit Pop also-rans Northern Uproar.

Seeing is believing, but it's certainly the worst band website that I have ever seen!

Excellent stuff ๐Ÿ™‚

It does the job, contains all the relevant info, and loads ok

Doesn't do the job all that well. We were actually looking for info on the looms and could only find some of it, and that was hard work.

I mean, many folk on here are appalling dressers with no sense of style whatsoever, but think what they wear is ok

Yes but their business isn't depending on how they dress casually. If you are an online business then you need a website that doesn't look utterly terrible. If you don't know how to do webpages then just put up simple text. They didn't have to put awful background images on every page or bury the catalog link half way down the page. OR put a dog on it.

They seem to have a reasonably large premises so you'd assume it was a business big enough to at least pay some guy in Karachi for a decent page.

There's a few others that jump to mind. These are all valid and live (I've just checked).

To buy plants in Mole Station, New South Wales - www.molestationnursery.com

To find out which agent represents a celebrity - www.whorepresents.com

Looking for a therapist? - www.therapistfinder.com

Visit Lake Tahoe - www.gotahoe.com

Quick, get me some artwork! - www.speedofart.com

A church in the US - www.cummingfirst.com (seems to have been abandoned now?)

The classic used to be Experts Exchange, but they're hyphenated these days and the old expertsexchange.com seems to be a cybersquatter page. Similarly, Powergen Italia (was this ever real or is it an urban myth?)

"www,cummingfirst.com" I sometimes have that problem, I tend to just stare at the wardrobe and think of Thora Hird.

it's dangerous game that one.

Either you lose interest altogether or every time Last of the Summer Wine is on the telly you get all excited and every trip to Ikea is quite overwhelming.
