Anybody ever play it?

When I was in Korea and the missus kept nashing home for three month stints, I started playing it on private servers (because it was free) wasted months playing it. Couldn't stop.

When she came back, she would have to sit there while I farmed leather to sell before going out. First thing in the morning I would check my auctions.

A hard addiction to break.

Stopped playing at the start of the year, after a couple of years' playing. Fun whilst it lasted.

For the horde!

Tried it on a free months trial.

Not my thing, dumped it pretty quickly!

I've heard of it but i have no idea what it actually is or what it involves - is it dungeons and dragons (whatever that was) for cybermen?

Friend of mine got really into it, to ridiculous levels.

My brother plays E.V.E online quite a lot too

I never saw the attraction with either. Tried E.V.E but just couldnt get into it at all.

Gave up on it when it started to become more like work than a game.

Didn't get on with EVE. It's multiplayer Elite with all the fun stripped out of it.

After about 8 months of playing it, I realised that there was more fun in finding out the latest private server hacks and exploiting them until banned, then starting over again.

Glad I don't play it anymore.

Lad at work used to bang on about it all day, day after day. About tiers of armour, all kinds of shite I can't remember. He freaked out when his dad would pull the plug on his internets in the middle of some sorta battle. Would be really wound up the next day and just counting the seconds to get back on it. I never told him to shut-up or anything, just let him ramble on and on about it, into a scary amount of detail. I think he thought I was interested, and gonna get into it, not that I was totally and utterly bored with my job and just nodding at anything slightly diverting.

Level 80 rogue here. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Bizarrely encountered another WoW player whilst trail building, one of the Grimey Lymeys. I find it vaguely tragic that I can't recall his name, but that I know he's a resto shaman...

I hate rogues. Evil sapping freaks with the Illidian Legendary Blades

Or rouges as most of the WoW forum muppets call them.

A few lvl 80's here

It's a game I'll play and move away from time to time. As far as game content goes I dont think there's much that can touch it. High end raiding in the game is where it's at ๐Ÿ™‚

Rolling on things that you don't need and nicking them is where it's at. Just being a complete c*** and ruining somebody's 4 or 5 hour raid by grabbing the lot using an exploit was worth it. Don't think that can be done on the official servers though.

Ninjas become well known pretty fast. Net result is other player banning them from raids

[s]Alison something or other was the owner of the WoWscape server - she got nailed in the end for it.[/s]

Just read it - that was the lady. She made a fortune.

She was making a fortune from donations etc though. Mad people spending $300 on stuff.

Court documents for it

Glad she got hit.

Whenever there was a problem, she would come onto the forums and manage to mention people donating.

Spouse became addicted to it for nearly 2 years, slept on sofa for most of it as I got hacked off at being woken up when he came to bed at 3,4,5am. Came to ultimatum, either cancel it or cancel his week of climbing, it was that serious. Still, I did gain a cuddly electric blanket out of it ๐Ÿ™‚

Played for a while and really enjoyed it for a bit but as many point out, if you're not careful it's a real time sink. I have friends who play a lot and some who are REALLY into it and plan their lives around raiding. Too much effort for me really.

Even have some friends whose marriages broke up over it.

My house is situated in a woodland public park and shortly after moving in we were introduced to the world of Live Action Role Play (LARP). This is the "real world" version of WOW/Dungeons & Dragons/whatever, where overgrown infants dress up like elves/wolves/princesses/wizards/eejits and play out their fantastic games.

I was startled from a deep sleep at around 4am by the most incredible scream from outside my window. My immediate thought, perhaps obviously, was that somebody was being attacked. I lay for a moment or two listening for another noise to confirm that the first hadn't just been a dream. I then heard a mumbling voice, gradually getting louder, although still incomprehensible, which suddenly ceased before, in best, booming warlord fashion, a cry of "DIE BY MY SWORD!!!!" tore through the silence. Screams, shouts and the sound of men dressed in fur rolling through leaves all ensued...

It took three dead-of-night interventions before the crowd of fools understood that the world around them - well, my house - still existed after they donned their woolly helmets and dressing gowns, and that my non-fantasy need for sleep and zero appreciation/tolerance for their wizardry would result in somebody's rectum being used as storage for their "tools of war" if they were ever heard of again.

What a load of infantile nonsense.

Used to play it a lot but only really enjoyed raiding and committing 2-5 hours 3 or 4 times a week was just way too much so I quit cold turkey a couple of years ago. I think the most nerdy I got was with the original EQ, first year on that I had 125 days played, the highlight being camping 30 hours straight for jboots :p

A mate is also seriously addicted to this, but then his family all play it heavily too. This is after they got addicted to City of Heroes for a couple of years or so.

IMO, playing this kind of thing in moderation is okay, but FFS get a life instead of getting taken over by it.

Inconsiderate bastards certainly.

Its just like grown men riding bikes in in the woods. It just depends what floats your boat.

What we should all be doing is mature stuff like working for the man, slaving our guts out 60hours a week just to maintain our overpriced house mortgage and car repayments, building up a heavy dose of stress, weight and concurrent cardio vascular disease.

That way, we can sniff at people enjoying themselves and tell them they're so juvenile.

Well said SO. Personally, I don't do MMOs any more (just don't have the time or the inclination), but they can be a serious addiction, no doubt. I had a lvl50 priest and rogue back in the day when that was the level cap (and before I had two little children!). Solo play (ho ho) wasn't so much fun, it was the clan raids & instances that kept me interested. Problem is, you needed to devote a good 5 or 6 straight hours to it at a time to get anywhere because other people were relying on you, in my case as a heal-bot most of the time. Anyway, once I quit WC, I realised what a monumental waste of my time it was for those ~12 months or so. Not saying that applies to everyone playing MMOs, but if the "everything in moderation" saying is true, well it's pretty hard to play an MMO in "moderation" as they're very carefully designed around a grind of some sort, however well disguised it may be.

I don't know about WoW, I only dipped into Guild Wars because it was free. Its was relatively easy to pick up and drop though.
