Root is some player, not many excel in every form of the game.

Is it time that bats were limited to give bowlers a fairer chance?

Golf had to do it with restricting the energy transfer of clubs where the courses - especially the older 'classics' - can't be made any longer, and the famous bunkers are all now 30 yards short of where the balls land. We can't make grounds bigger and you need the boundaries to be 5m in to allow for the sliding stops and catches. Yet with a 3lb plus bat the batters don't even need to hit it well to score sixes.

I never had a bat more than about 2lb 8 and I could hit a six if I hit it well. If I hit it badly, I'd get caught. A man with Chris Gayle's power and a massive stick......

Worth giving the bowlers something to challenge them...

Playing a subcontinent minnow on a spinning deck was always going to trouble us, but this is really poor. We've forgotten how to score a single

Still, we are playing Australia, what can we expect against one of the leading teams in the world? It's not as if we are playing Afghanistan or anyone like that is it? That would be just embarrassing.

Decent partnership between Ali and Willey, got a chance, but only that. Need Shazad out cheaply.

I think that's enough runs to win this game. Maybe not the next one though!

Turning pitch and England are better than Sri Lanka.

It will be close but I reckon England by 10 runs

England strong favourites to win this now according to bookies. Odds probably slightly distorted by home team bias but still...

It was the chaotic nature of our innings. We showed all the tactical nous of an England football team ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

There is a very real chance we will go out anyway, as our NRR is poor, compared to SA.

SA seem to be struggling against WI, if they lose, England qualify if they beat Sri Lanka.

Other group is now an Australia India showdown.

I must say, the current format is too short. 4 groups of 4, with a few more associates, and a QF round would be much better IMHO.

Disgree, think it's been a good format: associates involved with lots of competitive games, and now 2 from 5 means each teams gets 4 games (most of which are still meaningful) and only the best get through.

I was just getting ready to say that it's not really proper cricket anyway. Going to have to hold off for a bit longer.

Fantastic performance, really impressed they kept it together - amazing that such short games can have ebb and flow.

ballsy decision to bowl the last over of spin while Mathews was still whacking it around. Wasn't convinced at the time, but my nerves couldn't have taken it if that last over had been Mo or Rashid, even with 20-odd to get!!

Well the Ladies have just about managed to pull themselves back into it after a bad start, here's hoping for a double celebration.

The evidence of the first innings seems to be scoring hard in the final overs. I think England need to get a move on.
