I'd rather eat my own arm. I'm finding it hard to resist telling everyone what I really think of them now without the aid of alcohol

Ours is rubbish - the boss takes us to the same pub (in the middle of nowhere) every year as it's near to him, and you can tell he hates putting his hand in his pocket. A rollocking pi$s-up it certainly isn't!

He tried to arrange it for a Friday night this year so I said I couldn't make it due to another commitment. Thought I'd got out of it, but the git re-booked for the Thursday!

Theologians warn us against the temptation to imagine the conditions of heaven and hell in particular detail.
But I'd be willing to bet there is a christmas work party every year down below.

Ours is normally good fun. It tends to be a good meal and a few beers paid for by the boss, around midnight the boss goes home along with some of the older members of the team and the rest push on. With the odd exception, there are no real nobs in the team and whilst I don't consider them friends, they're a pretty god bunch to have a few beers with. This all generally happens on a Thursday so there is an almighty team hangover on the Friday where very little gets done.

I've been working since 1987 and still haven't been to one. partly because, since 98, work and its parties have always been 30 or more miles away.
This year I'm self employed so my work xmas party will be when & where I feel like! Don't yet know what the client company has planned but again it's 30 miles away

I don't have the time or money to socialise with people I do like, so I sure won't be using the limited amounts of those that I have to socialise with people that I just happen to work with.

I get on with my workmates and it's a free-for-all so you can bring your partners, even your mates if you want.

It's the only time I actually drink, t-total probably 48 weeks a year, 3 weeks a year I might have a small bottle of beer when the kids go to bed, but the works Xmas do I seem to be able to cram 6 pints and as many Rums down me before falling in the door in the small hours.

Takes me 3 days to get over it.

I miss them, work remotely and there are only 3 of us so not much point. I pity those that hate all the people they work with, must make work really crap.

I never went because I enjoy getting relaxed too much. Preferred to keep up the appearance of serious and sober, early to bed. Ho ho.

I don't 'hate' any of them. Just that I'm 59, could probably drink most under the table & can't be arsed with the bother they seem to get into. I have been there, I was 30 yr old once!

They say at Xmas parties you should go hard or go home.

So I go home

I have never really understood the whole socialising with colleagues thing. There are a few people at work I get on well with and we would text / call each other on time off and go for the odd drink. Most people at work I am indifferent about but pass the time of day and a few I can't stand.

What really confounds me are those people who get very hot under the collar when you choose not to attend bbq's etc because you would rather spend your time off with family / friends / cycling etc. I don't want to spend my time off with people from work talking about work.

I've always felt you build teams by behaving like a decent human being at work, not getting bladdered together a few times a year.

It's not complex. It's just like socialising with others but it's with people from work.

You can do both. We have the odd get together as it's a chance for everyone to unwind, work rarely gets mentioned the rest of the time it's good banter and a laugh.

Mines brilliant.

I work alone so do whatever I want. Last year it was Casino, decent curry then onto some other places ๐Ÿ˜‰

No one to look after, nooner to worry about and I go home when I want. Suppose I'm just a loner in that respect.
