I think that ^^ is the single most disturbing picture posted on STW ever. *shudder* -could we hide it behind a {spoiler} tag or something ??

Anything that leaves Carlton ‘the king of the cliché’ Kirby’s gob. He’s ruining yet another grand tour for me.

Decimate

1 through 40 instead of 1 TO 40

"Can I go toilet?" instead of "Can I go TO the toilet?"

Floor used to describe the flat thing you walk on OUTSIDE!  (It's the GROUND FFS.... floors are inside)

Replacing "TH" wif an "F"

Swop out

the list goes on......

Slight tangent, but where I work the term 'development opportunity' has pretty much universally become code for 'this task needs to be done, but there is no personal development value in it, so I'm handing it to you because I'm not touching it with a bargepole'.  People have stopped using it, as it only has negative connotations.

Insane.  Hnnnggggh, gets right up my bugle. It should only be used for descriptions of mental health.

Community.

They use it about every tenth word on my local evening news programme.

For example it seems you can no longer talk about farmers, only the 'farming community'. You can no longer be a gay person, but rather are 'a member of the gay community'. No longer a Rabbi, but a 'Jewish community leader'.

Can we extend this to phrases?

If we can then I nominate "with all due respect".

Exponential growth/rising exponentially when it isn't. Just say growing or rising FFS.

In the bike world, slang for components. e.g. stoppers and anchors for brakes; lid, brain dome for helmet. Necessary if you are writing a magazine review of a set of brakes, to avoid using the word brakes in every sentence. Not necessary in any other context.

See, I like "with all due respect."  It sounds like you're being respectful even if the respect you actually believe is due is "none whatsoever."

You have to be careful with "with all due respect", sometimes you'll be speaking to someone that doesn't know what it means- an American, possibly- and they won't realise that what you're actually saying is "You're a know nothing arsehole"

That sounds like a terrible situation and one I'd totally want to avoid.

In the middle of a discussion the phrase

'to be honest'

pops up. Does that mean you haven't been honest till you said that? Bah!!

So.

I hate the current trend of starting a sentence with this ..

I never used to think anything of this, but just recently it seems like nearly everyone on telly prefaces a sentence with “So...

Even consecutive sentences! 🤪

I like to use the word 'ambitious' when someone is proposing to do something ridiculously stupid

Literally!!...

I gave my daughter grief for using it for almost every other word over dinner with a friend before a trip to BPW.

That weekend he returned the favour by pointing out that I said it almost as much..this then started a trend of everytime anyone said it we'd jump in and point it out. even to people we hadn't seen in ages... it became quite annoying!..

Decimate

People using "data" in the singular must make your head explode.
