I’m fairly sure I didn’t use the best approach to it.
Yes, the thing with Quordle is that chasing a word early on makes it harder to get the others because you're eliminating fewer letters. I always use two different words for the first two attempts and then decide whether to start chasing words or use a third different word to narrow things down more. Finishing in 6 is possible, but requires some luck. Finishing in 7 is usually possible.

yep, took me a while but thats pretty much my strategy now. if ive nearly got one word but theres a couple of options, ill look at the other words first to see if one of those letters would be more useful there. trying to just guess one word wastes a valuable go.
