Women bloggers want action against hateful trolling

"Women are supposed to be sexual objects, we're still not supposed to be thinking, feeling, complex human beings. It is due to the continual representation of women as just beauties, the attempt to reduce women to a surface on which we project sexuality. So we're not real people.

"The deeper question is the disenfranchisement of men who find themselves in such depraved circumstances that all they can do is expel the fury that's inside of them on to women. The reaction these men are having shows they are very, very threatened by something and that threat is to their masculinity."

Are you Julie Bindel, Cath Elliot, Bidisha or Laurie Penney? If so please turn leftwards and head straight to CIF on the Guardian, on roller skates ...

I've never heard that particular act described with such eloquence.

I didn't even look at the link, and I was right - oh well a blokey forum meets extreme feminism - I'm off to 4OD.

"Anonymous trolls regularly threaten female writers with rape"

Which pill should they take to help them find that funny?

Crude insults, aggressive threats and unstinting ridicule: it's business as usual in the world of website news commentary

the opening line which pretty much sums up this place tbh
I suppose we could say it is equal as blokes get the same here .... the real world is not like this as most of will be politish to people even if we think they are idiots. Perhaps on the internet there is no fear of physical confrontation so it releases some people to say what they think - some of the comments
The blokes who criticise people for doing this get the same treatment.
Whilst i accept z-11 meant that as a joke how do you defend saying this to someone you disagree with men?
"You're gonna scream when you get yours. ****ing slag. Butter wouldn't ****ing melt, and you'll cry rape when you get what you've asked for. B****."

Would you let someone speak to your wife mother or daughter like this?
Its not that bad here thankfully we only threaten to go out for a bike ride which is the thinking mans sexual insult eh ๐Ÿ™„ Again most would probably not like that used to their wifes mothers or daughters by a random stranger in the street

Perhaps I should have read the link thoroughly first before commenting, and I happen to be a woman. But I have little sympathy with the likes of Laurie Penney et al because a lot of the grievances they have are often manufactured or overly-sensationalised. No-one would argue that the threats they have received are totally wrong, but they go off into the realms of complete psycho-babble and uber-feminist orthodoxy, that it's difficult to follow their logic or sympathise whole-heartedly with their cause. Also the Guardian and its talkboards are not known for their merciful nature. All manner of people (men and women) get regularly eviscerated by the Comment is Free posters in particular. I think saying very offensive things is a problem across the internet. Facebook can also be among the worst places to find attacks of all kinds.

I used the word rollerskates, because they're old-fashioned, clunky and difficult to get around on in say typical mountain-biking terrain - kind of like sarcastic like ...

This isn't about feminism and I don't see what their views have to do with anything?

Nice bit of irrelevant whataboutary as well.

Interesting article and she's a bit of a looker too.

That's what I was thinking. I was hoping for a full length picture though.

What the article does do is highlight how relatively nice and decent a place STW actually is; There may be views and opinions expressed on here that I disagree with, even that I'm quite uncomfortable with, but nothing as disgusting as quoted in that article.

I suppose that's down to both a good(ish) bunch on here, and good moderating. Well done both.
