Closing in on 50 I probably shouldn't be thinking about these - aside from the looks I'll get - but I woke up this morning after having a really memorable dream about in-line skating off road !

Never done such a thing and have no desire to ski proper, (although I can ice skate pretty well) but it got me doing a bit of research whilst it was fresh in my memory.

Anybody tried something like the below? I'm only thinking of local fire roads that are relatively flat and can see it being rather a good all over body exercise whilst not being too hard on joints.

I would go running but fancy something different.

Not intending to be fast, just saunt around looking stupid 😀

Mrs has some and loves them (but not been on them much yet).

She kind of progressed:
Rollerboots (as a kid) - in line - Rollerboots - off road online - Skikes (v similar to in your video). The big advantage is you can use normal boots or trainers so can walk or run if the terrain gets too tricky.

Got them from a guy running Skike NW (saw his van at Gisburn) so there are options to try or hire them.

Edit

This guy - also an mtber so probably lurking on here.

I had a pair of those Powerslides for a number of years (similar thread a few weeks ago and starting to regret binning them!) and they're seriously good fun and pretty capable offroad. If you can skate you can use these, just takes a bit of practise until you learn not to put the pole between your legs. I used to live next to the Army ranges in Aldershot and used to go around the vehicle tracks - you do need a fairly wide track like a fire road rather than single track. Seriously good workout so the core and quads - skate 2 technique where you pole push on every glide is a mega workout. A lot quicker than roller skis plus you can go over rougher terrain. Mine didn't have brakes - you can do a crude stepping snow-plough or just schuss! You also really need mudguards and overboots in the wet as you get filthy.
More popular in Germany and some big online dealers like Derrollenshop.de

Cheers. Might contact the Skikes guy as I like the idea of wearing regular shoes and taking them off if the terrain gets nasty or it fails etc. 🙂
