It took 5 years of suggestions from me, a cycling coach and knee niggles for her to think about using the middle ring on her surly.
She is thinking of getting driving lessons in the new year, an automatic will be our next car if she does in terms of needing less mechanical sympathy…
Thankfully had more success on the central heating controls and her using the gas fire to top up the front room rather than putting the whole house on 30. I have learned to accept duvet thickness is her call and will gladly agree to whatever choice she wants.
I've completely given up on trying the explain the mysteries of the thermostat to Mrs B.
I now just dress for the prevailing (environ)mental conditions in the house.
In winters past I've strolled around in shorts and a T-shirt with the thermostat cranked up to 25C (by her) with no chance of the hallway ever reaching that giddy temperature whilst the rest of the house melts.
This year though, with the rise in gas prices and close attention being paid to the smartmeter the heating has been switched off apart from one hour in the morning and evening. The house is permanently freezing. We are in Inverness, and its sub zero outside and I'm sat in front of my computer all day long working from home on STW, wearing thermals, down jacket and hat.
Crazy.

My foot has gone down today. Heating on constant, thermostat in the hall set to 14, rest of the house is comfortably warm. No requirement to wear a hat / down jacket in the house.

The hallway is the largest void in the house covering ground and first floor, only has a small radiator downstairs, and the thermostat is pretty close to the front door.
14 seems to be the sweet spot to achieve a sensible temperature for the rest of the house. Well, for me anyway.
For reference, I set server rooms to 18.

The first people into the office think “it’s a bit chilly” and set the thermostat to 30′.
The next lot arrive to find a sauna and knock it back down to 16′.
Then The Lizard gets to work, smashes it back up to 30′. Sits there in a hat and gloves and squeals “I’m cold!” at anyone within a two metre radius of the controller.

Someone loses their rag and flings open every window in the building.
The Lizard goes for a shit. In her absence a brave soul immediately slams the aircon back down to 16′.
All the windows are still wide open so the aircon is now trying to cool the entirety of Lancashire down to sixteen motherloving degrees.
The controller melts. The outdoor units freeze solid. We no longer have either heating or cooling. The Lizard is officially and highly vocally Not Happy.
The maintenance company is called. Craig arrives with a big bag of What The Actual.
The whole system is stripped and rebuilt.
Facilities installs a lockable Perspex case over the controls.
The Lizard is beyond pissed.
I cannot stop laughing.
I now work from home.
Brilliant. Have seen this exact thing happen a few years back in an office full of 20's men and women. The thermostat/window wars. Things get nasty.

I actually threatened my old boss with me sitting opposite her in my royals due to her having control over the thermostat and a penchant for 26*c.
My new admin has been issued a desk alongside the largest radiator in the room, whereas my desk is against the (single glazed) window...

I had a fairly poor sickness record in a previous job, which was put down to ongoing sinus problems. Generally feeling poorly with a complete lack of energy, but no real symptoms. (That workplace still have, a real problem with staff sickness.) Something prompted me to take a hygrometer in for a few days, which showed me that the office sat at 24C and a really low humidity - something similar to the Atacama desert, I seem to remember. My sinus problems suddenly made sense.
