Still looking to re-locate to Peak District or thereabouts. Seen a nice place in Wirksworth which isn't exactly central (as far as I can tell) but like the look of the house. Anyone from there or thereabouts? Any opinions? Presume there is good cycling outside the door despite being a bit further south? TIA for any intel, as always...

Lived there for a while and near by for 6 yrs and was frequent visitor. It's a great place with an interesting cross-section of society. Lots of literary folk and has good pub, The Blacks Head (unless it's been forced to change to something PC) , good market and the high school's not bad. There used to be a fab Italian restaurant too, home cooked by a couple and The Bear was a great pub at Alderwasley. Ians Barbers is an institution! Excellent pubs at Brassington and Kirk Ireton, The Hollybush is also excellent at Milford but that's near Belper.
Great biking on your doorstep for many abilities and Carsington Water for child based activity. 30mins and you're in the Peak and all it's biking offerings.

2nd what teagirl says, its come on an awful lot in recent years. It used to be a quarrying town in the 80's but its now the sandal wearing capital of the white peak - it even has its own arts festival.

And there is some great riding on your doorstep (not all of it legal though!), and you can use the High Peak Trail to quickly get to the trails further afield.

There are some excellent restaurants in Matlock and Matlock Bath also. And you're only 20mins or so from Derby which has everything you need in a city.

Yep, some lovely parts to the town. Very Bohemian with a big local arts community. A town on the up with a lot of civic pride - you can tell by the festive decorations ๐Ÿ™‚

You've got lots of riding on your doorstep or within a 10 mile ride, though it's not the Dark Peak!
