they have begun to regularly stop halfway across the screen. Apart from changing the motor has anyone found an inexpensive or easy fix? (I presume some internal motor fettling is needed) 02 focus if it makes any difference.
thanks
Bill

Might just be the linkage connecting the motor to the blades. If this is sticky or seizes, the motor control gets confused and stops the blades in the wrong place. Some WD40 on the two linkage pivots might be worth a go. (This happened on my old car, but caught it too late, and the motor was stuffed by that point!).

Happened on my old Escort when the bolt securing the linkage worked loose. Needed loosening more, setting in the right place and then nipping up.

Whether that'd still apply on a modern car, I've no idea.

It's more likely to be the tracking internally
Drop the motor out, and open it up to show where the connections are.
There will be 2-3 "tongues" that ride on a circular track.
What normally happens is this track gets pitted and causes a break in the circuit.
Give it a ligh sand, some flux and solder to re-tin the track is normally enough.
Done on it 2 Astra's and a Vivaro to date.

Or it could be a fuse. Park is frequently a separate circuit.

First check that the bolt that holds the wiper arm hasn't worked loose.

I've got probs with my rear wiper doing this.. Googled it and most results indicated a prob with the rear window wiring loom.. Might need to check my fuses now!! Ta.

Check that some muppet hasnt undonr the main bolts that attach the arms to the linkage, just above the bonnet, had this done to me, switched them on in the rain on the motorway after somebody decided to loosen them, motor and linkage worked fine, but the wiper arms didnt move, just as a lorry blinded us with spary.

Take off wipers, and refit in the parked position.

allthepal is yours a vw/seat/audi/skoda by any chance? Common problem on those as the rear wiper has the washer fluid fed through the centre. If the nozzle blocks it fills the motor with water and makes it do odd stuff.

I did my inlaws 02 vectra the other day, father inlaw had tried to use them when the windscreen was frozen. I loosened the nut on the motor, moved the wipers into the off position, cycled the wiper motor and tightened the bolt up again. A google search suggested all sorts but this worked for me.

Google problem and there seems to be a relay that can cause the problem.
