We're off to Winchester for a few days, anyone have any recommendations for good little back street boozers, country pubs, nice little restaurants and anywhere else in our near the town to get stuff to eat and drink?

The Vine used to do a decent pint , ditto the BlackBoy which i a must see imo.
There are dozens of pubs and restaurants that are great .
Will have a think on it over tea

I believe hog lumps are traditional Winchester fare.

The Bush, Ovington. Not far away, and always good.

Milburys is supposed to be decent, nice little ride from Winchester heading towards Beacon Hill.

The Wykeham Arms is great pub/ restaurant - just a stones throw from the cathedral and the college.

Restaurants, try palm pan Asia or kyoto kitchen, when you get bored of pub food.

Breakfast, try Forte kitchen or the dispensary kitchen.

Never realised how many places ended in "kitchen" until I wrote that.

To add to the pubs, the willow Tree has been really good in the last couple of years.

If you want a good walk, follow the river upstream. Villages with pubs all the way, the pubs vary from fine to very good.

Black rat does good food and is the sister outlet to the black boy.

Deffo go into the Black Boy, whilst sipping a pint have a wonder around. Pub food is also really good. A regular part of my summer SDW in a day challenge.

Black boy is a must for many reasons.

Take a wander to the new cycle cafe at the bottom of st Catherine's hill. It's a nice walk along the water meadows and then up the hill.

Wykeham arms for old worldly.

Mucky duck for sport and burgers

Greens for cocktails

Wykeham was lovely, currently having a pint in the Willow Tree.

Where to go tonight, that's the question...

Hyde Tavern for old low beamed pub. Mixture of beers, sometimes music in cellar. Sociable!

Pi Woodfired pizza is the best pizza restaurant around.
Bush at Ovington is one of the nicest country pubs. Also brush makers in Upham but you've probably gone home by now.

We went into the loch fynne on the high street yesterday and the cauliflower curry was delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their fish and the waiter was an absolute star.
