[#13535224]

Hi just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

just replacing dropper cable on alloy T130 and upon retightening the bolt for the internal mechanism as it gets tighter but not upto torque the bolt is clicking (snapping sound) upon tightening. The sort of sound that makes you stop and not want to continue. I’ve unscrewed it and cleaned it but the same each time, bolt looks fine.

How is it best to treat these please? Did try putting assembly compound on the bolt but still does it. Any suggestions or experience welcome.

So I’m guessing probably…. Will have to dig around for a small brush and see if I can flush anything out!

I've had a couple of Whytes with that internal clamp. Both of them I used to tighten them up to around 6Nm, from memory they were marked as 15Nm, which I always thought was OTT and would stop the dropper working.

thanks I bet it just needs a real good clean, also apologies all I’ve realised I’ve not posted in the bike chat! I think it said 6nm max but I’m only getting to about 3 and it’s making awful noises. I’ll try cleaning it tomorrow and report back as it’s a very unnerving sound!

Is it stripping/ skipping the thread? If the female part of the bolt was too wide a diameter, or the threads ground down a bit, the male part could skip across the thread under tension - and of course every time it happened it'd be more likely to happen again

So no don’t believe that it is skipping the thread at all. The bolt looked fine when I checked, will give it a good clean out properly when I’m able to and see if it helps at all thanks
