I had a bit of a panic the other evening when on my way to a gig my phone decided now was the time to do an update. Luckily it was completed by the time I needed to retrieve my tickets. The whole downloading business can be a mess though. I usually end up with a ticket in my wallet, in Files and in an email just to be sure.

Re. banking apps, my Lloyds app works seamlessly. Ms Slow's Natwest app is, on the other hand, utter shite. As is their website.

We had an RBS, it shut. They now have a mobile branch come round. I can watch it park from my classroom. Then watch it drive away 10 minutes before break. So I have to drive 20 miles each way to put cash in to my account.

I no longer bank with RBS.

I may be of a minority here, but I find the RingGo parking app quite simple and effective (assuming that where I want to park uses RingGo).

What I do object to is being forced to use the app because there is no other way of paying, then being charged extra for the privilege of using it! Why do they always charge more than the advertised price? Surely any usage fees should be included into the cost of the ticket, not added as extra.

This being the crux of the issue.

Can I add in shops that are different entities online vs bricks and mortar. If you have the same branding, then behave like you are one and the same organisation people.

The cheque thing does has it's advantages though......

We were recommended a structural engineer through the architect we used for an extension.
His work was fine, but he was a prick and once he sent the calcs through, he got shirty because we hadn't paid him by the end of that same day.
I hadn't even seen the e-mail & I had a shitty follow-up email telling me to read the terms on the invoice as payment must be received on the same day as the invoice is sent out. I was not aware of this as the only place this was stated was on the invoice that I hadn't read yet.
If he had communicated that to me in advance it would have been no problem. If he'd have contacted me to tell me he had sent the calcs through, I would have had no problem with payment. If he had asked for 50% payment in advance & the rest on completion I would have had no problem. But he did none of this. Just got shirty because I hadn't got round to checking my e-mails on that day.

His invoice said I could pay by a variety of methods, including cheque. So I dug out my old cheque book & posted him a cheque.
He did cash it though, which was annoying.

Why do they always charge more than the advertised price?

Because they can, because what are you going to do about it?

Magnanimous of you, I think I'd have paid him in £1 coins.

Ah yes, the "convenience fee". Nope, it's actually more convenient for me to put £1 coins in the machine thanks very much.

Ive just picked up tickets from The Gala theatre in Durham. They handed them over the counter to me. No extra charge for "Souvenir tickets". I just need to make sure i dont lose or damage them and remember to take them with me.

When I book tickets at the Fire Station in Sunderland (great venue), I specify box office collection and they print a physical ticket on the night. Don't think it costs anything extra. Independent venues not using Ticketmaster FTW!!

Local train station is like this - owned by Network Rail, £3 to park all day IF the machine is accepting coins (rarely) or accepting cards (usually tbf) or £3.30 on the Ringo app.

Can anyone think of a single example of anything which is better when you have to do it on an app?

There is a Singletrack app (for iOS at least) - I don't use it much, but it can be handy if I'm going away and want something to read.

I actually find banking apps quite useful and quicker to use than the corresponding website for most things, especially transferring money between accounts or paying friends (for example, if we're splitting costs for a meal).

It’s MiPark in Chippenham, and I think possibly all of Wiltshire; unless it’s a gig, anywhere local I want to go to on my own I use the bus, but I’m fairly certain that all of the local parking machines take cash, or at least Contactless. Bristol I think uses the RingGo system, which, IIRC, required actually having to pay by texting some number or other half-assed extra layer of embuggerance, designed to make everybody’s lives even more sodding miserable than they usually are. The MiPark app usually works fine, but every now and then it throws a hissy fit and refuses to co-operate, so I just restart my phone which, while it’s a pain, does work.
One feature, not sure if other parking apps have it, but you can select it to show your elapsed time, which shows on my iPhones little Dynamic Island, and I have the option to extend the parking period if necessary, which has got to be better than having to rush back and shove more coins in the slot!

When I’ve booked tickets at my local gig venue, I just tell them my name on the door.

I hate parking apps with a passion. But if there was just one you could use everywhere, I’d be fine with it.
