So I have a 5g sim in my Galaxy S21.

When I do a speed test it gets around 200mps on the phone.

However, if I connect a PC via mobile hotspot, this drops to around 50mps.

Any ideas on how to improve it?

I used to find having Bluetooth enabled would slow the hotpot connection speed massively. Might be worth trying disable it for a test.ย

ย

50Mbps on the phone or the PC?

Wireless properties / enable metered connection?ย  The PC dragging loads of bandwidth is going to mean that it's slower on the phone itself.

50 on the PC.

Sometimes over 200 on the phone.

Tried the metered connection no difference.

Thanks for the try.

It could just be the nature of the beast then.ย  Is it connecting at 2.4GHz rather than 5?ย  Have you got a different phone you can compare with?

50Mbps isn't exactly slow for a single device.

Thanks @Cougar - Didn't realise you could switch to a 5Ghz hotspot?

I'm now getting about 140 Mbps

I know 50Mbps isn't "slow", my FTTC broadband doesn't give much more than that and I have no problems at home.

I now have a 5G router at home, I'm close to the mast and get excellent speed.

They upgraded the mast a couple of months ago, added 5G and now you can get 100Mbps on 4G.

Good good.

The dowside to 5GHz is that it tails off rapidly over distance, but that's a moot point if you're using a hotspot a foot away.
