Who's good for car tyres?

Yes Frank, you should have seen I did sell one a few weeks ago and have another for sale. If you look in the energy thread you'll also know I've been trying for a month now to get £1600 of credit back. It's just a matter of cash flow and with mot, insurance and mot on my own car due needing to manage that.
Tried the place that Asda would actually fit at and they couldn't get within a tenner. Let them offer another known brand bit still a fiver over Asda. Tried the place my mechanic neighbour and mate recommends, couldn't do the Toyo but could get close to the price with a falken however that has a lower rating on economy. Was about to go with Asda but had one last try with the Indy I last used and they matched the price, but the price was 'best price' and getting 4 not 2 wouldn't allow them any lower. I ordered 2. 10 mine later they call back, drop £4/tyre if I order 4 and a further £5/tyre if I'm happy with a higher speed rating version (t not h).....errrr let me think 😁. 4 x T rated toyos ordered at £55 each. WFH tomorrow so hopefully on the car by tomorrow night.

My advice through experience, try both Black Circles & Asda. When you find the best price & fitting centre, phone them up & see if they can beat that price.
Quite often, they can.

4 x Michelin cross climates 2 at  BC £438 fully fitted for wife's car, called local tyre place who are BC premier fitting co. Their best price was £516.

Order placed via BC to be fitted at local tyre place.

Saw the vector 4 seasons at the same or less than the Toyo and considered them. Less wet grip though, can’t see the wife out on snow, if it has snowed and we want to go somewhere the family octy has snow tyres on and yes I do know they are better in just cold weather (below about 8C) not just snow…. Still undecided.

Less wet grip? Compared to what? I was trying to get Vector4Seasons for my EcoSport, and there were none to be had via the supplier that work uses, pretty certain that my Ford would be putting more through the front tyres than an i10, in fact I know it does, and I’ve driven a lot of i10’s and it’s close relatives.
I ended up with Michelin CrossClimate2’s, and there’s a world of difference between those and the Goodyear OEM’s it came with. They cost me somewhere north of £200, £230-ish, I think, so the Vectors for significantly less would seem to be the ideal solution.

I have vectors on one of our cars. Seem to grip just fine in wet and snow.

Also had good experience with falken euroall and vredenstein quatrac.

Vector 4 seasons on my last 2 cars. As well as good wet grip and snow performance they were far quieter than the OE Bridgestones on my Octavia.

During the Beast from the East a few years ago I got out our estate when the unplowed snow was deep enough the front bumper was plowing through it. Main roads deserted as nobo else could get to them from unplowed/gritted side streets.

I hate searching for tyres. Every time I decide on a tyre, you see a review that there’s another one ranked better / higher / cheaper. I need to change the Pilot Super sports on my car soon, and seem to have settled for the new Primacy 4. Yes it’s not as “sports” but should be comfortable, got wet / winter grip and more economical on the long runs I do.

I’d really like to get some all seasons but that means moving from a staggered setup (bmw) which will cost a new set of alloys as well.

Not that it helps the OP but I'm looking forward to swapping the Toyos on our Mazda for vector 4 seasons.

Not if you're going for 'all season' tyres - the staggered set up only has issues on full winters & even then it's not a big problem.

If you can find the right mix of sizes then go for it.

I'm sure there are better tyres out there but I'm happy for now. The Toyos ended up being nanoenergy 3, at a good price for all 4 and should both pass the mot, and grip far better than the tyres dad had fitted.

As I said, I'm a fan of winter tyres but the i10 doesn't need them as it'll not get driven in such conditions. The Toyos age appropriate for the car and how it will be used.

Now if I could save as much from a local indy battery place over Tayna I'd be laughing as the family octy will need a new one this winter I think.

Costco are good if you want Michelin. They were cheaper than Blackcircles, and the tyre manager told me that if I'd waited for a Sale they'd have been cheaper still.

Yeah, if you need all four done then Costco is the place to go IF you are eligible for membership.

I just paid £110 +£20 fitting for a NOS Crossclimate+ on the Mondeo, I'd love to pay £60odd a corner. I've had Crossclimates on that for a few years now, better than the Nokains that were on before and a country mile better than the Goodyear Eagles before that.

Vredsteins on the bus seem to be holding up well, Had Nexen before that but they wore out quickly.
