I remember an American telling me in all seriousness that dinosaurs did not exist because it was against God but he fully believed in Nessie and wondered why the UK Government were continuing to cover it up.

What was even more weird was that other than that conversation he seemed and entirely rational person with whom I had met on a ride and chatted for the last 20 miles to a youth hostel in Ludlow talking about all sorts of stuff.

WCA - that's americans for you; normal on the surface but all sorts of weirdness under the surface.

Frank, exactly what the American thought about Loch Ness.

🤣

@tartanscarf That would be brilliant, thank you. Not late at all, he's back home but still in and out of hospital.

We should all take inspiration from Ren, his mum and sister; they're the ones putting in the hard yards.

Mrwhyte - very good!

He's been back into hospital a couple of times since. His... feeding tube? keeps coming out. Other than that I think he's doing OK. I messaged Jo just tonight but haven't had a reply as yet.

Thanks for asking.

Just a brief update. Ren's put a stone in weight back on - he'd fallen down to just 5st before they properly realised what was going on.

I thought, however, you'd like to see this:

"seryn was in charge of putting the cards on his wall at the weekend. I'll take a photo when I get chance tomorrow...there's been a couple from Guernsey, one from pyrenees..another one from maybe Netherlands? I'll have a look again tomorrow x"

Ren's wall

Cards are still dribbling in so thank you all once again. I'm told a helicopter kit arrived a couple of days ago which he is very excited about putting together.

👍 I think this is just routine rather than any cause for concern.

Cheers.

Are cards still welcome? I wasn't sure if his family was starting to get tired of mail yet?!

Thanks for the thanks, I don't want to be spamming.

Things look to be heading in the right direction. Little bugger's been through the wringer and Jo's hanging on.

Merry Christmas, one and all. I cannot thank you enough. You're a bunch of argumentative shitheads, but you're our argumentative shitheads.

I've got some relatives in New Zealand on the case so hopefully that'll be on its way shortly too.

How's Ren and his family getting on? Hopefully some post from NZ has arrived now as well.

Very kind of you to ask, thank you.

His feeding tube thing was removed about 4 weeks ago. His appetite has returned and brought friends. He's on bi-monthly infusions (of what I don't know), last one was a couple of weeks ago. He's looking a lot better.

Dunno about post, I'll ask.

Jo:

Awww bless them. We did indeed receive a postcard last week from NZ thank you😊😊Ren is doing really well thank you. Needs to start gaining weight again but his condition is being managed well with medication atm. He'll need cameras and scans regularly but he's certainly on the right road 😊😊😊

I asked after Seryn:

she's had a few wobbles but I'm trying to be more conscious about this...it's certainly been harder being home than I anticipated if I'm honest...

And I asked after Jo herself:

Yeah OK atm...I have moments...thursday was a very bad day...but I'm OK overall

Again: Thank you. Legends, the lot of you.

Ee, blimey. How kind of you to ask.

The kids both started a new school this month, in Year 10 or whatever that is in old money. Jo posted a 'back to school' photo, they both looked about as thrilled as they would be if they were going for a root canal.

Completely coincidentally, we're going to visit them at the weekend. I'll report back next week.

Shared with permission:

Ren is a year or so older than his sister but they're in the same scholastic year now as he's been allowed to retake a year to cover all the school he's missed.

On the upside,

There have been issues with bullying. This is a new school, new start for both of them together.

I'm back.

Ren is doing OK. He's desperately underweight despite having the appetite of a typical teenage boy. His largest concern at the moment seems to be the lackluster Internet connection (he 'only' gets 100Mbps in his bedroom).

Seryn is at the 'raging at the world' phase of teenage-ism, though there's been bullying issues so there is that. She stormed off at one point, slammed her bedroom door, then immediately opened it and slammed it again harder in case we missed it the first time. Jo was in hysterics. (Joking aside, I think she's really struggling with everything having been about her brother.)

Jo's good. She's recently got a new fella after being single forever, we met him and he seems a thoroughly decent chap. He's the guy who created the GoFundMe back on the first page here, I figured it's the most elaborate way to get into someone's pants I've ever seen.

I took them to an escape room:

Again, thanks for asking. I told her the forum was asking after them and... I don't think she still quite gets it. 😁

Great, thanks for the update.

Sounds like some good progress, I hope he continues to do well & good that Mum’s happy with the new man.

Bullying sucks, hope it gets sorted and yeah must be tough to have all the focus on your brother the whole time at that age.

Congrats on rescuing some teddies 🙂
