Holy cock, JANET's changed a bit since my day.

I remember managing to up the speed on my terminal from 4800bps to 9600bps and thinking my god, the raw power! Kids of today, etc.

I live in a 'Brawdbaaynd Poverty Area'.

It has been a bit quicker last couple of months mind. get up to about 6.4meg now and then. Speed is woeful in the early evening though, iPlayer etc unwatchable quite often.

I'm assuming my problem is that my location is rural, rather than that Zen is useless...

Quoted as being 30 mbps so happy with that. Still doesn't seem fast enough at times.

On the upside, based on that figure, I'll wager you have the highest shite-per-second rate on STW.

(-:

Paying for up to 20, and my router says I'm getting 17. Speedtest says I'm getting 7.

Mine is absolutely awful. Unreliable and slow -- this is a good day. About 2 miles from a major urban centre, too!

Elf - I thought everything was brilliant in London! Why have they supplied you with two tin cans and a piece of string instead of broadband like the rest of us?

In fact, I get a better result from the other side of the world 😆

Why have they supplied you with two tin cans and a piece of string instead of broadband like the rest of us?

Because British Telecom what owns the hardware and the exchanges (what were built using taxpayers money originally) chose not to invest their profits in more hardware and instead provide a crappy residential service whilst offering a far better quality service to Canary Wharf, which runs off the same exchange. This area has the highest line contention rates in the UK, way beyond the 'industry recommended guidelines'.

BT was privatised with the illusion of 'increased competition' and other such guff. This is a fallacy, as they have the monopoly on hardware, still.

Guess who's to blame? 😉

Quite pleased with that for £7.50pm.
