Is it just me?
Am a selfish nut?
Straight on the list, anyone who hates pets...
Pends on wether you've got space for them or not, and are willing to look after them. They can be extremely rewarding, but a proper pain as well, and they can get sick and die which is traumatic.
Interesting idea about 'selfishness' though. Possibly, eh?
Or maybe it's selfish to keep an animal what would otherwise be roaming free, in a confined space/area.
You're an inhuman monster.
Probably.
You have a heart of stone.
I wasn't into the idea either but let myself be swayed my mrs deadly. I can now see the point - while still wrestling with the "keeping-an-animal-for-my-own-reward" thing ๐
I have the same view toward children
Love pets though
I prefer them to people.
You're an inhuman monster.

Yeti.
Erm, not had a dog(s) for 13 years now.. Would love to have another Spaniel but the thing is I'd end up locking it away all day and I know what that can do to Spanials (having had them go bonkers before see) So I'm of the mindset that unless one of us is at home with them, dogs are not entering the Bouy household anytime soon.. Me no likie puddycats neither.
So, yes, you are selfish in a humaine kinda way.
I grew up with a huge number of pets: horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, rabbits, dogs and all the other "brought in under the cover of darkness" types of animals that passed through for a few days.
I ought to have an affinity for domestic animals. I don't. They're a PITA.
So if my daughter (oh teh ironing) ever wants a pet, she can forget it.
If you get fed up with pets you can get them put down unfortunately the same option isnt allowed with children
You're dead to me. Pets are awesome but only if they're dogs or the kind of cats that don't like to climb all over you.
I like the idea of one (particularly a trail hound, but there's just a bit too much commitment involved so I stop myself (or ourselves) from getting one. oh... and we both work all day so it would be a bit unfair.
Just get her a Tamagochi.
Never really been into pets.
My wife sister has cats who just smell and I dislike. However her mum has a cat though who's a bit stupid and just sits on you and i've got a bit of a soft spot for her now.
But dont really see the point in having my own pet. I'd have to look after them and stuff and they'd be there all the time which might start to grate.
Surely it better for other people to have pets and do all the cleaning etc and you can see them occasionally.
Selfish in the humane way described above, me.
[gross generalisation] Although I do think that the British are almost perverse in the way they think of their dogs. [/gross generalisation]
Dogs are still dogs at the end of the day.
Never had a pet myself (excepting when I was abut 8 a couple of goldfish from the fair that lasted a month or so), and not likely ever to get one. Too much hassle to look after. Mrs NBT pleaded and pleaded to get a Guinea Pig so I said ok - it shit all over the carper behind the TV and chewed through the phone extension wire. When it died we didn't replace it
People with pets - people with dogs *especially* - seem incapable of uderstanding that not everyone likes them. I don't dislike them, but I have no particular love for them. Mrs NBT is terrified of dogs having been bitten on more than one occasion and really struggles - I've yet to meet more than a handful of dog owners who appreciate that even though their dog is the most wonderful happy bouncy dog on earth who wouldn't hurt a fly ever and only wants to say hello, the fact that it' bounding towards someone and leaping up can genuinely cause fear. Much as I would if I ran at them screaming and waving an axe.
Me - although we have 2 very large dogs and 1 small one ๐
The wife buys/shows/does events with dogs. I buy/ride bikes ๐
Who else doesn't really like pets or doesn't really see the point in them?
ME! Definitely me!

Can't argue with that. ๐
I find having cats around helps keep a sense of perspective. Ultimately they're insane, scheming, untrustworthy, mercenary pathological killers, yet still cute, affectionate and loving (when they want something)
So once you've shared a house with a couple of them, the behavior of even the most dysfunctional, sociopathic fruit-loop human being, at work say, can seem mildly irritating at most. Its something you can brush off with relative disdain. Knowing, as you do, that your 'pet' - the one you shower with love and affection - would happily murder you in your sleep for buying it the wrong brand of food
TSY
I take it you have never had pets then?
Replace 'pets' with '29ers' - same mentality, same opinions.

+1 and a LOL
+1 to no pets and don't want any.
Dogs are still dogs at the end of the dayCan't argue with that.
Neither can I, and that's why I love them!
I don't want any but do like dogs, it's just the effort in looking after them that's the problem - including cleaning. No other animal belongs in a house. I do have chickens, they don't take much looking after and provide food for me if I give them something to eat often enough.
I take it you have never had pets then?
I don't have pets myself, no. As a child we always had cats, including several batches of kittens. Friends would come round to gush over them... my opinion 'meh, there just kittens'.
Also had, hamsters, lizards, fish etc... never bothered about any of them.
Grew up with pets in the family. Dogs and cats. One of the dogs suffered long term bowel issues.
Being an only child, and a school kid at the time, I was first to arrive home every day. So I had to deal with the daily aftermath of a horrendously incontinent dog locked in a house all day.
Mostly it was near liquid, often green and orange, the most repugnant smell I can recall. Also often laid just inside the front door so it would be scraped in an arc as I entered.
Every day. day in day out. Otherwise healthy, the damn thing lived for years in that state.
I now have the stomach integrity of a geriatric ward nurse, and a solid, unflinching vow to never own a pet. I firmly believe our living room floors and kitchens are not for defecating on. Anything that does defecate in my house anywhere other than the designated facility will be immediately kicked out and never allowed to return. I don't consider that selfish.
I promise to remember that not everyone likes dogs
IF
Parents will remember that not everyone likes kids - especially when they are screaming and running round loose in a restaurant when I am eating and trying to have a nice chat with my friends
๐
Hmmm, I should really have had puppies rather than babies. ๐
I did enjoy training a puppy, most of the time, and watching her develop into a [s]hippopotamus[/s] sensible adult. Dogs can have this amazing ability to destress people and playing with a dog is certainly therapeutic.
Some people that live near me appear to have a minimum of 5 dogs. ๐ฏ I am of coursse extremely jealous!

that's ****ed up britain right there.
We don't do pets, and never will.
Whats not to like?
bags of crap hanging from trees
Pro-pet me. All ours have been rescue animals in one form or another. It's a happy relationship, they have a caring home, food, warmth and healthcare and we have animals who enhance our quality of life . Everyone's happy and I've got the purrs to prove it ๐
TSY - it doesn't necessarily make you a selfish nut*
I'm in the pro-pet camp - have always had dogs, love them to bits and find it incredibly rewarding (and often demanding).
I don't expect anyone else to like dogs when I'm out and about (and similarly as Karinofnine said, don't expect me to want to play with your children when I'm out!). But if people come round to my house I expect them to treat my dog with respect and accept that she comes first in my life.
* you might be a selfish nut due to other reasons though ๐
I prefer our cats to Binners they eat less make less mess and don't snore...... FACT!! ๐

Spider crap? Hanging from trees? I'm shocked and amazed.
Yes, yes, that may be true, but I don't regularly sink my teeth into your feet when you're least expecting it
I think they're called webs.
I was pondering a dog but I don't think it'd be fair on it due to work, going away etc. Also, I might just find it annoying like I do cats and other peoples dogs.
I hated domesticated animals. 5 years ago we got a West Highland Terrier.
I still hate domesticated animals.
You're all trying to out-do each other in the hard-man-doesn't-like animals stakes. Well done.
Me? I love animals. Yes, the dogs/cats/chickens are a PITA at times, yes, I have to get up at 5am every day to walk the hounds, and yes, it's expensive having a dogwalker to come in for the afternoon walk, and having vaccinations and insurance is another expense I could do without
But I'd not change it for an instant. Since having the dogs I'm walking an extra 4 miles a day, my heartrate is down, and I'm generally a lot more relaxed.
There is NO point to them, just as there's no point to MTBing, rock-climbing or Steps concerts. Other than the fact that these things make me happy. Well, apart from Steps, that is - liking them is a complete tragedy.
