Need to fly to Cherbourg from Southampton (or anywhere within 50 miles) on Monday morning. Preferably 2 or us but just me if necessary.
email details in profile
Get the Ferry. Britney Ferries . 3 hour crossing , just booked Dezb et famille on one to come home tomoro evening.
The Brittany Fast Cat is being refurbished from Sunday night for 3 weeks. I was booked on the 11am Monday but the slow ferry has replaced it. Fast cat got me home today.
try your local airfield, everyone has a price - and I can't imagine that prop aircraft have the same problem/issue/panic* as jets

FFS; he'll be asking 'has anyone got an aircraft carrier they can lend me' next...
Portsmouth to Caen no good then? Its a slow crossing , but you do land more 'inland'
Are you running drugs ?
I have a hire car left at Cherbourg with a 200CHf deposit that runs out at 9am Tuesday.
BTW Do you have an aircraft carrier? Different project but still interested

I think.
allthepies - aircarft carrier or Cherbourg?
BBB - what's the prob?, are you going to have to pay a big surcharge for leaving a swiss car in France (I heard it was 4000 euros for a swisser left in UK)?

Sweet Mother of Jesus... 😯
Try ringing some local airport/airstrip - how about the one near Shaftesbury or Bournemouth, since you're in Soton?
You going back anyway on Monday ?
AVIS has/had my/a french car at heathrow and I bet loads of others are around. you could hire one, drive over (ferries were bookable this morning for Dov-cal) & then drop it in chbourg for no penlaty as it's french car then drive your swisser back to avoid the ludicrous overcharges
finding a UK reg car for the same trick on return might be harder, though surely you could find a french one in swissyland?. (Sea France are doing stand-by foot tickets and running all night I think or maybe take your bike in the car & come back as per that other thread & get nat express/train)
Actually a pal of mine does have an aircraft. It's based at Sherburn in Yorkshire, he's been to France loadsa times. Dunno if he can go to Cherbourg on Monday though. (dunno what it would cost you either!)
Ok , Heres the plan.
Get youself on the 11pm sailing from Portsmouth to Caen, with Britney Ferries. Book a reclining seat , its £39. Get the train from Caen To Cherbourg. The ferry arrives at 0630, thus leaving you 4 hours to get to Cherbourg ( and do the drug deal )
Taa Daaaa
The train is 1 hour and 12 mins. It costs £18.50.There are trains at 0659 and 0759 . The train is direct so no chance of going wrong or missing a connection.
Leaves you time for a nice breakfast too.
Do I win a prize??????????
Tickets to some random bike event in the New Forest per chance.
That will do nicely Sir
singletrackmind - If it works you get the tickets. Cheers

BBB if it helps i could give you a lift to pompey.
1111 - Cheers but I think I have a lift there sorted.
Are you prepared to pay about £250/hr for aircraft hire?
Go to any local flying club. You'll find someone with a commercial licence who will probably agree to fly you for free if you pay the hire. You can get a single-engine aircraft cheaper, but you'll be severely limited by weight (ie, probably just you and one bag). Also, it's not that safe for flight across the Channel.
That also assumes that Cherbourg will accept arrivals. And that a commercial pilot will agree to fly in dusty conditions.
Who has a light aircraft that will be allowed to fly to Cherbourg on Monday?
HDFOS.
Try Shoreham airport. They used to have a regular service to Northern France.
thank goodness I booked our ferry for tuesday night a few weeks ago and not at the last minute as usual! At least we have a cabin going out so can get some peace and quiet - ferry's going to be rammed innit?
Stoner - i was really suprised on the Fast Cat yesterday. There were empty seats from Cherbourg to Portsmouth
lol - the timing of the original post is significant in understanding why he didn't just hop on a ferry!
