What, apart from the guitar, the drumming, the songwriting, the singing, the production work...
So Meg isn't technically brilliant. So what. As others have said she was perfectly competent at keeping time with no unnessessary flourishes, letting Jack do all the important stuff. Bob Dylan is a barely adequate singer, but you couldn't replace him in a Bob Dylan tour. Pity I missed the Stripes live, I always enjoyed watching them on TV. Not enough rocking duo's around. Blood Red Shoes are the only other loud rock duo I can think of currently

Sleigh Bells as well for an ear bleeding experience. Jack is an incredible artist, White stripes leave a huge imprint on music

Yeah, seen Sleigh Bells (and again in a couple weeks). Great stuff, but not really in Jack's league.
Like most bands though, there's no point trying to explain to those who don't get it. Their loss ๐Ÿ™‚

maybe not pure rock but a loud duo none the less: the black keys

I prefer them to the Stripes anyway.

I like The White Stripes and some Raconteurs stuff. Technically not brilliant but it just works as the songs are well written. I think The Dead Weather is my favourite Jack White project though.

I like them. I bet you didn't "get" punk either.

Those that think that punk rock was defined by poor musicianship are truly the ones that didn't 'get it'.

Another thumbs up here, I saw them a few times, the last time at the Blackpool Empress Ballroom gig, absolutely awesome. When we got back to the hotel in the early hours they were sat in the bar with some of what turned out to be the Raconteurs (who were crap live). Again I'm not an expert in drumming technicalities but Meg was one (maybe not equal) half of a great duo.

Found this look back at their non-singles: clicky

It's helped me spot a few stand out tracks from the newer albums that I've not given as much time to as I should.

I liked a couple of their albums, the one with FILWAG and the one before. Really liked Dead Letter Blues.

But, yes, her drumming was at times 'right for the music' but at other times utterly dire. On one or two songs it sounds like a three year old with one drumstick and two drums.

Bum... tish... bum... tish... bum... tish.

see here's the thing, you don't need to be great technically to make good music, there's alot more to music than technicality. I think her drumming was spot on for that band, it was all about keeping a beat for jack white anyhow, anything more would have been a bit much.

If I gave you a violin and told you to play Flight of the Bumblebee I strongly suspect I wouldn't enjoy it much.

As a teen, I had a mate who was always saying things like "I love the keyboards on this track", or "have you heard the drums in this, it's great". But I never really got what he was on about.

I tend to listen to the 'whole' rather than the parts that make it. Obviously I can pick out riffs or solos within a track, but by and large the instruments are just working together to make a complete sound.
As such I'm totally indifferent to Meg's drumming, it's just there. I couldn't tell you a good drummer from a bad one, just that I like some music or I don't.

The only exception for me is with vocalists, I can decide to like or dislike a group based on how the singer sounds in the opening line.

Still, she's better than the Coldplay drummer. At least she tries. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Really? A huge imprint? They were good, but...

Not convinced of that ๐Ÿ˜•

Jack White's not a bad drummer.

He was the drummer in my favourite band in the early 90's Goober and the Peas.. used to see them play in Detroit regularly.

Interesting old bit of footage that. Should imagine Jack can play most things pretty well.

In my eyes anyone who can make music that affects me physically is good.

White Stripes are very Good ๐Ÿ˜€
