This (poor) photo was taken in italy on the Tuscany trail - it was really hard to tell what they were. But their behaviour and the picture showed them to be hummingbird hawk moths

I like a dehavilland 'Moth, but I wasn't so keen on the (proper, insecty) one I inadvertently swallowed on my ride home, lots of protein, but tasted blimmin orrible!!!
