[Closed] Which laws would you question rather than blindly obey?

Watching the guys gardening in the sunshine next door today with their hats on and hi vis.
It's pathetic really. No room for common sense whatsoever.

I'm not sure I blindly follow any law. Not knowingly.

I've deliberately and thoughtfully ignored many laws over the years. Generally I follow my own moral compass and refreshingly it seems to be fairly well harmonised with statute law. Where there are differences I put my hood up, don't draw attention to myself and do as I wish.

As do many I'd imagine.

I don't watch much on the BBC these days, but I'm glad it exists - it keep the commercial channels 'honest'.

I tend to question most things legal or otherwise, I'm disappointed that in recent years we've blinded accepted "guilty until proven innocent" for some crimes because it's hard to prove guilt. Motoring offences mainly.

I'm concerned that some serious crimes are proven by weight of accusation rather than evidence. (It won't make me popular to spell that one out).

I think most drug laws are ludicrous, dangerous and reactionary.

Well, the TV licence thing isn't really "just because", is it? It funds the finest independant broadcaster on the planet and represents bloody good value for me, but of course YMMV.

Pretty sure that's not a law. Just an inflexible interpretation of health and safety regulations.

I'm not going to wait indefinitely at red traffic lights, because my bike won't trigger a change to green.

^ that's not the law either, if the light is not functioning properly you can go through it.

Footpaths*.
If I feel I am harming nobody or nothing, I'll ride my bike on one.
I feel I am considerate and aware of others.

*That is rights of way footpaths, and for that matter, paved footpaths.

Law banning tandems in Japan was one I broke on a near-daily basis when living there. Home brew was another I broke a good many times. Aren't so many stupid laws in UK it seems.

I do cycle through red lights when it suits me, and also past "cyclist dismount" regularly but I'm not sure if the latter is actually law.

No doubt this will qualify me as 'the other side'...

But BBC well worth the £12 or so per month.

Pretty much all drug laws are unenforceable and i have absolutely no qualms about disregarding them in my opinion, there's plenty of other laws i have no time for either.

Don't be a dick is pretty much the only law you need to follow, If you ever ask yourself "Am i being a dick?".......then you most probably are and should apologise or change the situation so you are not being a dick.

I don't like the fact that people 'own' the countryside. That we're told where we can and cannot roam. I don't understand how anyone can own significant chunks of the planet. No one has entitlement to that shit in my opinion. That's why I'm such a rebel and occasionally wander off public footpaths.

The BBC I kinda like for the fact that they're not completely driven by commercialism and sales. Paying a tax in return for some honest content is not such a bad thing. However, I'm not really sure how much truth is in that these days. It's a fine line.

Cannabis laws are just stupid, even a lot of the police know that people get away with a lot because the police just take it off them and basically apologise for doing so and let them go off to buy/grow more.

Some of them probably did. How do you know which ones though? (same question applies to owners of countryside). Is there a list where I can look up how each person acquired their land so I can decide whether it was ethical and walk across it or not?

Curious, do those that buy land look after it any different to those that inherit it? Both look to earn an income from it, however good or bad they may be at it.

Sticking with the land theme, laws regarding commons are unfathomable and barely written. It's possible to own land and have absolutely no say how it's kept.

on the bbc subject, i too agree id happily pay for content that i want (6 music), and that the moneys worth it to a lot of people, but i dont agree that you should have to pay the bbc if you dont want to use their services. if youre happy to just access 'all channels other than bbc' then they shouldnt make money from that.

FWIW i despise the bbc's tory bias and would happily veto them altogether if it wasnt for 6 music.

At some point they're going to have to re-evaluate the laws governing what you can and can't shove into your body, as they're completely nonsensical, everyone ignores them anyway, and in most places you can procure class A drugs like you can order a pizza delivery.

A complete waste of police resources, ultimately damaging to society in its refusal to engage with the actual problems caused by drug supply in the hands of criminals, and simultaneously infantilises and criminalises everyone involved. Bonkers!
