I do struggle with the idea of being deliberately controversial as a technique for communication. I think it reveals a paucity of imagination and is not the way a gentleman should conduct himself.

Look. i started both threads while stuck on very boring teleconferences.
Both were designed to provoke thought rather than just simple name calling.
The racist one started with a non-racist joke and made people think about why they may have thought it racist.
The sexist one made people consider that implementing good intent legislation can be difficult as it can actually legislate against evidence.
Neither thread was sexist or racist but hopefully made a few people think through their prejudices.
