Advice needed please, i'm going to Madchester for the weekend with the Mrs, where do we stay?
Is Salford keys ok?
Help...
[*]Quays is alright but if you're planning to go out round the city centre there's plenty of nice places to stay. What's your budget?
£££
I've booked the Raddison Edwardian but now i'm not too sure.
Don't want to be at the arse end of town.
Also wheres all the live music?? The lady at tourist info says it's all museums now..
Can't be right shirley?
If you want to go out in the evening I'd stay in the city centre. Castlefield perhaps.
Edit - The Radisson isn't in a bad location. Manchester centre isn't that big so you can walk anywhere. There's loads going on. What do you want to see?
The radisson is very nice tbh. Great location in the centre. I stayed there at Christmas despite living 6 miles from town.
Go on late rooms and get a serviced apt, four of us stayed in one last yr for the Peter Kay opening night. There's some one bed ones also available. First time we used an apt I was dubious but have also stayed in London in one and highly recommend! In fact I still have the lad in manchesters phone number to ring him direct and book it cheaper rather than through the site!!
As above, if you want to see the sights and shop round town etc than you are much better off staying somewhere in town.
There's nothing really wrong with Salford Quays but it's a 15min journey on the Metrolink when you needen't really bother.
No idea what your budget is but off the top of my head, Radisson Edwardan on Peter Street is very nice but probably towards the more expensive end, Jury's Inn on Bridgewater Street is OK and probably average price but in a nice location. At the budget end there is a Travelodge on Great Ancoats Street and a Premier Inn on Portland Street. If you really intend on splashing out then there is the lowry and also the Great John Street hotel (I think it's called) next to Granada.
Just seen your next post now OP- I'd say the Radisson Edwardian is a good choice. It's in a central location though I'd avoid going to all the bars nearby (Bar38 etc) and head to the Northern Quarter.
If you want live music then just google 'northern quarter' and check the bars and venues there. Roadhouse, Mint Lounge, Band on the Wall, Night and Day and also Deaf Institute probably worth checking out.
For daytime drinking and strolling go down to Castlefield. Dukes 92 by the canal is a Manchester institution and if you like real ale and a chilled out atmosphere then try Cask on Liverpool Road.
For the evening then the better bars are mostly in the Norther Quarter but before you head off there make sure you take the Mrs to the Cloud Bar at the top of the Hilton. She'll be impressed with the views and the nice (bu expensive) cocktails.
Eating wise there's loads of places but if you want a curry then you can't go wrong with Akbars on Liverpool Road. China town is also good.
Raddison Edwardian is really nice and excellently located. Take some swimming shorts as there's a small pool and spa facilities you can use FoC too.
Opus One restaurant in the hotel itself is also really really good (although I did get 50% food with a Tastecard).
Personally I think Salford Quays is too far out if its a city break.
Whats your budget?
I'd like to stay here- http://www.principal-hayley.com/locations/the-palace-hotel.aspx
Hora - in the 3rd post the OP said he's booked the Radisson.
I haven't stayed personally, but I've heard stories of the Palace Hotel being somewhat dated now in terms of finish/decor. Any reason you want to stay there?
Might be a little late now but the "Great John St Hotel"

Pretty s****y and has a nice Hot Tub on the roof.
Pretty central being just off the corner of Deansgate and Quay St opposite Granada Studios,so you may see the odd celeb too.
Love the building, the interior is amazing when you walk in- yes its a different era butin a good place for some nice bars on Oxford rd, close to Canal st (oooo matron), northern quarter etc.
Palace hotel is dated, but what a fantastic building, both inside and out, and the rooms and food are still good
another +1 for Great John Street, we always stay there if we're in town for a night or two. Last time we were in the hot tub, relaxing, having a drink and watching the snow silently pile up on the roof all around, very peaceful and pretty it was, and the rooms are fantastic.
easygirl, you sound like someone I'd like to get to know 8)
