Use the bonnet off an old car. Had a mini bonnet once, best sledge I ever used. T-cut, Turtle Wax and a misting of GT85... Christ that thing was fast.

Hardware store, sports shop, garage and supermarkets but chances are they've been sold on droves.
I just strapped to skis I found in the charity shop earlier to a tea tray, **** me it's fast! Not bad for a fiver.

Just get a big innertube from Kwikfit/ATS and use that. Easy storage when done and good for rivers in summer.
