I was merely fact-finding to see if there were any alternatives out there of which I knew nothing. As the thread proves, there appears not to be.
Although those gladiator sandals ^^^ look pretty cool 😆

Reef flip flops for me. Never liked the look of birkenstocks, and +several million on the evilness of some of the suggestions above.
Although I am going to buy some espadrilles for this year's hols.
I feel a bit guilty, but this thread makes me giggle with glee. Observing grown men agonising (in a fashion sense) over combat sandals/flip flops/espadrilles etc is better than a poke in the eye.
Surely the only point where sandals become 'cool' is when they're doing the job they are designed to do? But 'fashion' and sandals? [IMG]

I think I have tried whatever there is for comfortable walking except shoes.
Reef flip flops <- overpriced brand that screams I am a "cool" surfer. Not cool man not cool. We wear some cheaper ones or local obscure brands that cost less than one 3rd the price and as durable.
Birkenstocks <- similar type but I had Bata brand as a kid. Yes, wore them as kid.
I worn flip flops or sandals more or less the entire day until adulthood and would go through them like biscuits in tea. The branded stuff might last slightly longer but to pay 3x the price ... ya, we know you are tourists.
Generally if you are a planning to walk around the whole day, whether as tourists or short sunny hike in another country, it would be foolish to wear flip flops unless your house is nearby.

Edit: I would prefer the Saudi flip flops over Birkenstocks any day. I can run with the Saudi flip flops but not Birkenstocks.

I was at the other end in Kalimantan, site boots and high vis was order of the day then cover up to avoid the mosquitoes. The birks were great for hanging round in the hotel.

Ya, not far from me but that place is being destroyed/deforested by some greedy oxygen abusers I dare not even asked what's going on there.
I hate the mosquitoes there because they are aggressive due to starvation for yummy human blood for a while. Malaria and dengue fever are not widespread yet but are on the rise in Borneo so better cover up.
Yes, birks and flip flops are a must in the hotel as they are meat to wear when you are very relax or shop trip to the shop. Not for walking whole day.

Got my peepers on some Vivobarefoot Ultra Pure daps; fairly openly spaced honeycomb mesh type trainers. Did look at their sandals but they're kerrrrayyzee.

Fit Flops are ace. Very comfy cushioned sole. Great for kicking about in.
Rentachimp,surely your soles will sweat like mad with them.
Idea is good though.
Have you ever had sweaty feet in crocs. They are lethal, the slippiest thing known to man. Assume those shoes will be the same.

Yikes! Ordered now. Sweating could be a factor but I just cant get on with flip flops. Should be okay as they are watersport trainers. I hope...
