...or indeed flip-flops.

Is there any option other than Birkenstocks? I really dislike those Teva-style "outdoor sandals" and need some that will be comfortable to walk in that won't make me feel ashamed. My trusty Reef f-fs have been going around ten years now and really aren't comfortable for anything other than small schleps.

Salomon RX Mocs - great things in hot weather

At 34c that can be considered a bit hot to wear because of the extra layer when there is no wind.

When I travel to the far east I wear Keen sandals and even that can sometime be a bit hot but so far I can manage.

I still think Keen is slightly better because of the toe protector.

They look like they'd do the job, but they're not really "me". 🙂

(Thanks for the suggestion though.)

toe protector.

The most these will have to protect me from are kerbs I reckon.

Crocs?

Friends in the far east wear Crocs all the time until I bought them Keen but they still think Keen is a bit too hot to wear for their weather ... 😆

Crocs?

Mr Speaker, I draw the honourable member's attention to my OP, where I clearly state,

that won't make me feel ashamed

There's no reason to be ashamed, unless you care what other people think 8)

I have some Crocs flip flops, so I'm uncool to the power of naff.

What's wrong with Teva's? I notice that Reef only offer a knock-off of Teva sandals as an alternative to f-f's, and if to want something that will offer support and comfort for extended periods, while still keeping your feet cool, then Teva sandals are unbeatable. I've still got a perfectly wearable pair that I bought in LA in 1993, some time before anyone in the UK were aware of them.
And any 'shame' that you might feel while wearing them is entirely inside your head*.
And is nothing like seeing grown men wearing flip-flops while walking around city streets, as I've seen in Bath and Chippenham just lately.
*Unless you habitually wear them with socks, in which case small children should point at you in the street and laugh.

what other people think

Wasn't there another thread about this recently? Anyway, most importantly, it's what I think that counts so it's a No to Crocs.

Clarks, they have made some mad looking sandals in the past, I've still got a pair from years back. Madder than these ones.

Not as cool as flip flops but the most practical.
Can ditch the socks obviously.
They are karrimor.

I bought Teva Men's Cardenas Fisherman Sandal Cigar for my father. They are good but since OP does not like them I excluded them from my suggestion. Like this.

[img] [/img]

I also have a Merrell sandals like this one I bought nearly 8 yrs now still good ... not sure what's called now.

Or you can also get the ECCO Casual Fisherman Sandal like this one.

How does age work with sandals?

Put it this way when you have lived in a country with 32c average temperature you know fashion come secondary to anything else. You can either have fashion then suffer the consequences or you wear sandals that is comfortable where no one gives a hoot about how they look because most sandals are in dark brown or black. Most of the locals just wear flip flops even in the jungle. 🙄

Edit: Anyhoo ... I do like brown leather colour if that helps. 😆 Also as a kid my first pair of sandals were brown.

Comments above about hot climates make me curious.

What might a typical Saudi Sheikh wear - down there?

Don't see or notice the feet with the robes.

Oh and I think Birks really - them or Keen/Teva - but something always says no about them action sandals - not even sure why!

Most of rthe shoes mentioned above are for old men, to wear with socks and shorts which pul up just below the nipples. Either wear proper sandals, or don't bother.

Those ECCO sandals are rather impressive to be honest with good quality design. A bit heavy but mind but so is Keen leather sandals. I briefly tried it on and because of the thickness of the heel it will absorb impact rather well same like Keen. The others have thinner heel so if you are walking the whole day I would go for ECCO. The thinner will make you feel your every steps ... not bouncy.

I have seen them wearing brown/black leather open toe sandals with thin leather sole.

Merrell Waterpro. I bought some for dinghy sailing in warmer climes, but now wear them regular as hot weather shoes. Vented, comfy, and if it matters, they drain and dry very well.

Touchy! The pint of sandls is to let your feet breath and be comfortable. Wearing socks with them defeat this purpose. nd looks crap!

I'm rocking some old Timberland sports sandals which have good grippy soles and a toe bumper but not over toe coverage or some leather Clark's sandals. Both over 10yr old. The Clark's are super comfy for walking around, similar to those below. The Timberlands do wet duty.

On the espadrille / Toms front I like Sanuks, have a pair of Vagabonds.
