[#1084698]

Today at the Grassmarket in Edinburgh I was putting my youngest into his car seat. This necessitated me having the car door open which in turn meant that anyone coming down this side of the road would need to wait until there was space for them - fair enough in a reasonable world. Why then did some imbecile decide it socially acceptable to skid to a stop and blast their horn, then start shouting at me to get out of the way?

I hate ignorant people - can we have a cull - please?

I think it was about the time that that dude on the bike didn't pull in to let you past on a single track road. Last year some time if memory serves. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you're stupid enough to put a young child into a car seat on the 'road' side...

Perhaps you could have a word with Resin42 who's getting impatient with kids on trails on another thread.

don't put your kids in danger? I have two kids and would never dream of going onto the road side. Put them both in from the pavement side, 1 after the other.

I'm with goan on this one. So what if the other driver had to wait for a few seconds so he/she could pull out beyond the car door? What's the goddamn rush?

Sorry Goan didnt recognise you.Joke.

Last year one of my elderley customers had a heart attack, paramedics arrived,as did the mercedes ambulance,Bily was on the floor, when a young lad from up the road came in and asked how long they where going to be as he needed to go to Mcburgers for a burger for breakfast, and he couldnt get his car out on the terraced street.
Billy being 89,told him where to shove his burger, luckily he made a full recovery, not sure about the burger though.

BB - So i should leave a kid to run about on the pavement while I mess about trying to get a kid across three seats. Doesn't sound like the safest option to me.

i.e. what do you do with kid 2 currently when you are putting kid 1 in seat?

I'm guessing this is more of your usual bullshit, halfarsed lame, attention seeking trolling. Well done big man.

EDIT: Read your response. Doesn't add up. Nice try.

Barry is right - you should know this as an expert driver and road safety expert.

Never ever put kids in a car from the road side.

I'm with Barry...... Roads are for cars and I wouldn't want my kid there. You may be holding onto them but there are some idiots about.

And two kids from one side of the car is not difficult....

Nice troll though, you can go back under your bridge now ๐Ÿ™‚

barry bethel are your kids never going to go on a road... at what age is suitable... i find you highly ****ing frustrating that you would pass judgement like that onto someone about keeping their children safe. i put both my children in on the pavement side then walk round to the road side open the door and fasten them in. so the arsehole beeping wouldnt have been avoided. also when the roads are reasonably quite i think its important that my children learn how to behave when on a road and understand the dangers. i think they will be SAFER for it. so go enjoy yourself on your high horse covered in bubble wrap. arse.

I am not stupid enough to do what you do. You claim to be a road safety expert yet what you are doing here is clearly dangerous and inconsiderate and specifically against the usual advice.

But of course the cyclist hassling expert driver trolling zoofighter is always correct even when his position is indefensible

^ whoever is rambling on up there. I don't really care what you think.

Goan/Smee/Glupton/Trollingzoofighter started this thread to get the usual predictable replies. I obliged [i]because it was him[/i].

i'll ignore the arse comment, because I don't know who you are - therefore cannot be offended.

Highway code

Parking
239

............................
* it is safer for your passengers (especially children) to get out of the vehicle on the side next to the kerb
..........................

One would assume that would apply to them getting in to the car as well

TJ - it may well be safer, but that doesn't make it compulsory. It is the responsibility of any driver to take note of what is going on around them. People [i]do[/i] get in and out of cars on the off-side, so it's hardly unexpected to have to pull out around an open car door or to wait until said door closes.

Highway code

Like the Bible, you can twist that pish to say anything you want ๐Ÿ˜‰

Highway Code:

"...
Rules for cyclists
(59-82).....

....You should wear:
a cycle helmet which conforms to current regulations... "

Stompy - If roads are for cars why do they have to be licensed to use them, when pedestrians and cyclists amongst others have a right to use them?

TJ - of course its safer to get out on the kerb side, pretty obvious that one. Sometimes it just isn't practical though and getting in from the road side is the safest option.

What if it had been a wheelchair bound driver getting into the car instead?

I would of just taken a bit longer to strap my child in, and made the driver wait then given him a big smile..thats boud to wind him/her up. Yes you can have a Cull. Who else do we put against the wall.

I'm with the OP. I take as long as I take to put the kids in the car and people have to wait the 30 seconds odd.

Blow them a kiss that always works.

If roads are for cars why do they have to be licensed to use them, when pedestrians and cyclists amongst others have a right to use them?

Because vehicles are slightly more dangerous than humans or cyclists and are therefore confined to roads thus separating pedestrians and vehicles with a clearly defined boundary. You would not walk on the road needlessly when there was a perfectly suitable path.

Anyway my point was that there are some idiots on the road so why put yourselves in their path needlessly??

Absolutly Druidh. the driver behind was being a cock as well. It takes two cocks to cause a rammy. Avoidance of risk seems reasonable

Goan - why not avoid risk and inconvenience when possible? Can yu not see the hypocrisy with this thread and your attitude to the cyclist who blocked you off on a singletrack road?

Vehicles are not dangerous though, they only do what people tell them to do. And where do cyclists fit in?

TJ - Not practical to try and avoid it in this case as i have already said - repeatedly.

No hypocrisy at all - care to explain why you think there is?

It is perfectly possible to put both kids in the car from one side - other parents manage this and it is clearly best practice.

You are upset that someone got cross because you held him up for a few seconds.

On the cyclist thread you got cross because a cyclist held you up for a few seconds. IIRC blowing your horn at him then forcing your way past.

How hypocritical is that.

You really need some anger management

I had the exact same thought when I first read the thread so can only echo what BD is saying here - have a read back through some of your posts dude (I wasn't aware you'd had [i][b]that[/b][/i] many soubriquets) - you don't exactly display massive amounts of patience yourself.

Tj - In some cases it may be possible for some people to put their kids into their car from one side - in this one it wasn't.

I am not upset at anybody - amused at their stress levels yes, upset - life's too short. As for the guy on the bike well he was being deliberately obstructive, he had the choice to move over into the passing place (3 of them) but decided not to.

DD - I am very patient, just don't suffer fools gladly.
