I'm a Communications systems engineer, and hate it!

I really want to be a tree surgeon, but at 36 i have been advised against it, as its a young persons game!

I also want to run a wildlife watching business in the Torridon/Gairloch area.

Sales and marketing consultant, (yawn) but I also work freelance doing sales and marketing for an adult toy company, so that keeps things interesting.

A hackneyed term, but perfectly descriptive for some of my workmates: grease monkey.

Love reading what everyone does! I'm a family support worker - I work with children and young people who are in foster care - support/mentoring/positive role model.

Just qualified to teach a specific method of behaviour support - and tomorrow start my first week of training colleagues in it, all day, Mon - Fri, and delegates have three exams at the end 😯

It pays the bills

deep river - generally it is due to the flexibility and physicl demands, also helps to be short. However, have worked with one climber nearer 60 than 50 who was 6'6", so not your typical climber. If you're fairly fit you should be able to keep up. Older surgeons seem to be more considerate of the trees too.

I work as a forester, taking them down at the ankles and dropping a lot more in a day than a surgeon would. Also pretty active with a lot more big toys than a tree surgeon. Love it.

Design Engineer and if I'm honest I hate it.

Ideal job for me would be a busy Bike Shop or a Joiner/ Carpenter.

Mulletus Maximus - What sort of Design Engineering do you do / who do you work for?
I do similar, with 'Product' sometimes in front of Design, bit disillusioned with it, so am currently studying an MA in Design part time to learn how to be creative again and to hopefully find a more 'positive' way of working.

I'm a glorified freelance journalist. Need to make up a grander job title, how about digital media content consultant?

ron jeremy - If you're the real ron jeremy then I think you're being a bit modest.

Mechanical Design Engineer in a small-but-growing renewable energy related company. Get to do the design / engineering in between the management/team leader stuff, probably adds up to 1.5 jobs. Enjoying the hands-on problem solving and interesting work more than some of my colleagues!

Solar PV system designer, engineer, installation electrician, zoo keeper and anything else related to PV that my company decides to get involved with but is too clueless to know what they are doing. Love the whole PV scene but hate the job 'cos the company is useless. Need to get out quickly before I kill someone.

Virtual Reality Engineer. I make fully tracked immersive environments. Think holodeck on Star Trek. It's pretty rewarding, there's always a "WOW" factor when you hand over but I think i'd like to get into flight simulators should I decide to move on.
