It's not a guess, it's recognition, find me another car that has the headlights close together integrated with the bonnet and the wings separate. Renault made them from pre war to 1960 as saloon, coupé with dicky seat, van, estate... . Some of the detailing changed but they're as distictive as contemporaries such as the 2CV and Traction.

No, I recognised the Renault and then when you said "look at the clue" Googled "Renault Juvaquatre Opel". The Wiki page on the Renault then told me that the boss of Renault had vsisited the Berlin autoshow in the late thirties and copied every detail of the Opel for his new car. So telling them apart isn't easy, but given Scotroutes gave us the clue there must be some evidence not in the photo it's the Opel.
The Opels are proabably quite rare but the Renaults had a long production run. They are often used in WW2 films though as with the Citroën Tractions if you look at the details they are often post war models posing as pre-war.

(i had a disturbing clonk on one drive home from work though, no ice on the screen, but the bottle of antifreeze in the boot of the car had frozen. About -30.)
