Oh! I’m now missing a Ginsters pasty and pork pies! used to love a pork pie with some pickle or a Ginsters pasty with mayo. I guess importing to Portugal is going to be a non starter……

@moe - quick google shows Portugal to be very similar to Spain, where there's a big British presence (for example in the Algarve) there are also British supermarkets - not the kind of place you'd necessarily want to use for a weekly shop but when you get that Marmite craving... heading further north there's this place:

https://www.glood.pt/produto/17551/pukka-pies-jumbo-sausage-roll-pie-164g

(Never used them, but have used similar in Spain - pricey but sometimes you just have to!)

I found that Dynamite underwhelming, and reverted back to normal marmite on my toast with peanut butter.

I should never have started this thread - so much artery clogging, diabetes giving yummyness to try

Greggs vegan sosig rolls are better than the ones filled with pig bits - and I'm a meat eater

And I'd say the BP/Wild Bean Cafe ones are even better as have sweet chilli sauce baked in

Where are the biscuits and cake?

But they aren't "junkfood" surely?

Mogrim, cheers, we're right up in North West, near Paredes de Coura (half hour from Spanish border) so ex Pat's aren't that common.
Kryton, agreed on the dynamite (overstated) although I have a vintage one open at the moment and I'm liking that!
We stocked up on Marmite when we came over and daughter brought more back after a visit back to UK last month. 😊

@mogrim, small world innit, that link has a shop in Porto, we go occasionally (airport usually) but the shop is near our daughters friends just off Boavista! 😁

corned beef crispbakes

Aldi also do a Mac'n'cheese one, if corned beef is too healthy for you. They're good.

I'm on day one of a renewed effort to get trim (5:2 diet) so I could easily kill the lot of you.

But I will add in a breakfast stick from the local roadside vendor to that list.

I can't un-see it, but feel that I must try it! I'm already overweight, @TJ I do not thank you for this thread!

Recently I tried a Brookie from a local bakery, essentially a brownie wrapped in cookie dough, I have a REALLY sweet tooth, but I have to confess to wanting to puke after that little concoction!

There's also a local streetfood van who have thankfully stopped their battered brownie, that was a thing of utter filth and loveliness!

I present to you the buttered brioche toasted Tunnocks teacake snackwich

Just in the interest of furthering one's knowledge...how, um, how would one, y'know, make one... Just so I can say that I know, y'know?

Banana soreen, lathered in Nutella.
Toasted in a pannini maker.
If no Nutella is available then honey and butter makes a great alternative.

Or for the full fat experience try home made peanut butter millionaire shortbread. Add 50% smooth peanut butter to the butter in the base.
Tin of carnation caramel, some high cocoa solids chocolate, pinch of salt and grated caramelise ginger on top

@Moe similar here, we've got a place on the coast near lots of ex-pat colonies, so no shortage of places to stock up on things like Marmite, orange squash etc., and get my pork pie fix.

Wonder if they sell Tunnocks teacakes? Hmmm...

Dear lord, this thread is the gift that keeps on giving*. Another one added to the list.

I've been slow cooking a sausage and bacon casserole, which on reading this, now seems like a salad

*coronary heart disease being that specific gift

It’s all relative. Having tried both I’d much prefer a box* of Linda Macs (frozen) ones baked fresh from my oven. Easily are the best veggie/vegan ones I’ve tried.

Although Cornish Bakehouse do a massive, filthy, fat-laced veggie one that will still make you feel as if you hate your body. Tastes good too IIRC.

Edit yes IRC

*size does matter

Not tried them, but her mozzarella burgers are lush

@nickc it’s nice and simple, warm up your griddle, generously butter both sides of two slices of brioche, griddle/toast one side (whilst eating a tunnocks), flip over and lightly do the other side, add as many tunnocks as you can, rest other slice on top, smush down and keep on the heat until molten.

I do need to play around with cooking times/sequence so I can get the mallow caramelised

An organic spicy pickled egg (The Smithfield, Northern Quarter) or if your veins need filling, a 'Manchester Egg' wrapped in a mix of Bury black pudding and sage & onion sausage meat, with lightly seasoned breadcrumbs.

I do love a Manchester egg!

For the scummy, low-rent version, crush up a packet of Seabrook salt n vinegar crisps to dust, open the packet, drop the pickled egg in and give it all a good shake. Remove pickled egg, now coated in salt and vinegar crisp dust and chomp away 😃
