The good old days, when you didn't need an account to post- just post as anon. Not sure how that'd go down now, mind.

PiersB
poet, now admanmatt, selling advertising on this here site
JonWIII (sexmidget?) - saw his name on a couple of reviews in the mag.

Keep hoping I can find the enthusiasm to start getting out more and meet some new folk to ride with. I mean... living in the Lakes now it shouldn't be that hard should it?

(sometimes I miss Stirling)

Hey Rob, I hope everything has settled down for you. We all miss you as well!

my 2 fav threads of all time were "42 flexing and posing" and "Badger blowing things up". In both cases the person on the receiving end seemed frustrated almost to the point of tears.

I know that shouldn't be so amusing, but it was ๐Ÿ™‚

don't think he's ever forgiven chipps for leaving glass marks on his coffee table by melting the varnish with cask strength whisky

Didn't realise that "Fit it with a rock" actually had provenance

I think fitting things with a rock was from a thread about the warranty on superstar cranks, was it not? Someone'd got very aerated about his cranks not fitting, and had been forced to smash them on with a rock the morning of a race.. and then fruit had complained that fitting with a rock invalidated the warranty...

The only Ye Olde STW meet up I went to was HamsterFest, at Hamsterley Forest in the very early days of the site. Andy Armstrong was there, plus TomL. Anyone else go?

Hope Darren doesn't mind me posting his image. 3rd or 4th Woburn STW meet. We had to split up into two groups for this one this was the 'core' group?

Hora's not changed his name for a while.

I used to look forward to his name changes. I could then bet on how many seconds it would take for everyone to work out it was him

I used to lurk in the GoFar days and signed up just after it changed to STW. No idea when it was.

Badgerboy, he has gone too, but then he never posted much anyway (so that's a waste of time ten!)

Managed to go to a couple of Thetford Yuletide rides 2002 / 2003 - one organised by Grueller who appears occasionally. Bez turned up at one with JoB and few others from the south coast.

Never felt up to meeting for a proper hilly ride - no fun in being the fat, wheezy bloke holding everyone up!

Drac - we met, oh 2003? Rode in the Cheviots with you & TimC, you on your old Rockhopper, me on a black Sub5 if that helps. My wife still laughs about it today - "you and two fit blokes" as she likes to say.

It was worse than that, though, wasn't it? You could post under any old name, even if someone else was using it too, couldn't you? It could be pretty anarchic, especially if Dan or Beer were on a thread, but if I'm remembering that right then I'm surprised it wasn't worse than it was.

I think I first arrived in 2002, after Googling for information on Hope Minis. I think I lurked for a long while before posting. I've always used ChrisL as my name.

One of my earliest posts was "things I have learnt from the STW forum". Amongst the things I had learnt were:

Hope Minis are the best brakes around[/*]

On-One are the largest bike company in the world[/*]

Aluminium is a niche frame material and aluminium frames are massively outsold by steel frames.[/*]

It is perfectly normal for a bike's designer to answer any random questions within minutes of them be posted on the Internet.[/*]

Hope Minis are the worst brakes around[/*]
I used to use MTB Wales a lot and they were forever slagging this place off, so I came and lurked a bit then started posting, cant remember my name before the hacking incident. That is quite disturbing.

Funny thing is what the MTB Wales lot said about here being cliquey and arrogant summed them up perfectly ๐Ÿ™‚

'don't think he's ever forgiven chipps for leaving glass marks on his coffee table by melting the varnish with cask strength whisky '

Um. It might not have been Chipps. That was TomL's fault really as he had to pay 'nipping off to bed' Tax in the form of Cask Strength Whiskey. What happened after that we cannot be held responsible for (PiersB fell of the wagon I know that!)

I'm still in touch with agony aunt, she left after the flak she got when she outed 42 when he sent her the "without Lycra" photos, she now manages her two daughters glamour modelling career

I've heard some tale that's suspiciously similar to this; Skinny pasty lad, stalked some married woman, sent 'personal' pics, she posted them up on tinternet?

Daft bastard... ๐Ÿ™„

she now manages her two daughters glamour modelling career
