Son's car has been reversed into while at work. The driver got out looked and drove away as if nothing happened. He has two witnesses and car reg. Damage is cracked plastic bumper, headlight maybe more underneath . He works at leisure centre so council property. Is it a police matter or just insurance companys or not bother. He is 19 so has a hefty excess to pay. AAAArgh going to be loads of hassle.

It's a an area with public access given it's a council leisure centre. Call the Police with reg and names of witnesses.

wot Drac said. If nothign else a call from plod will get the other drivers attention and he'll have a crime ref to quote to insurers.

Check prices for parts from the breakers, before talking to the insurance company. They'll try to put his renewal price up, even if he doesn't make a claim, just for reporting it.
Worth reporting to plod in case you do want to make a claim though.

Call plod, not insurance.

Personally I would get in touch with police and get quotes for repairs prior to contacting insurance.

Your son's fault id say, he put his car there, im sure there were other spaces with a much lower reversing idiot risk attached to them, if he had taken more time/care. Let him sort it out and learn a valuable lession, "this world is sh#t ran by bast##ds and full of people who don't think about what they are doing, don't be one of them"

Call the police it's an offence, he may try to wheedle his way out of it otherwise, especially if you have witnesses who are willing to assist and speak to the police.

What a croc of sh!t xterramac! You're saying that he shouldn't have parked it where he did because someone "might" reverse into it?
I'll try that with your car and see if you're as happy to suck it up. Im sure you'll tut and say, "well it serves me right for parking on my driveway, I should have forseen this happening and parked it on the garage roof". FFS, idiot!

Reporting the driver and trying to claim on his insurance is probably the right answer but I'd patch it up and not get the insurers involed. Even if the other party is found, has insurance and pays 100% your premium will go up and getting next years insurance will be harder. Depends on the car but I'd live with a cracked bumper and fix the headlight from a scrappy/ebay if it was an MOT fail. A few hours work and not much £££ for minimal hassle.

I think the police have a similar view and don't use the word 'accident' when dealing with this sort of thing.

It's a sad state of affairs but I doubt the law will do anything as no one was hurt. A few years ago the car I was driving was crashed into while I was stopped at traffic lights, the other driver kept going. I got the reg and reported it to the rozzers within 10 mins of the accident.

The details I gave them matched a car at an address 12 miles from the accident ... it took them 2 months to bother going round! Obviously the other car had been repaired by then ... sorry there's nothing we can do 🙄 2.5k worth of damage to my car.

He has repaired the car before as a result of a self inflicted accident so a diy repair is no problem. He is gutted at the moment, local plod are looking into it.

The other driver might find a day in court,6 points on their license and a £1,000 fine might concentrate their minds next time as a family member found a couple of years ago after a witness perjured themselves in court against her.

What if it was deliberate?

Then it's wilful destruction of property.

Part two. The police have done their bit and visited the other driver. She looked at his car decided it was ok and drove off. We now have all their details re insurance, policy no' company etc. A look at the phone book and we have an address. Do we doorstep them (may appear heavy handed) or phone for a chat or go straight to their insurers?

i would go straight to their insurance to be honest as if you go over there they can claim harrasment.

its not worth the hassle confronting them.

dont forget if he lives in any of the red areas, then he's expected to put that claim in for that sore neck he's got and the whiplash his elderly aunt also acquired in the "accident" too *wink wink*
