Are we all saying that in the face of provocation the defence of 'they were asking for it' is acceptable?

Just to clarify - I loaded the video to Vimeo because it was embedded in a Tweet and there's no way to directly post videos from there.

It was originally posted by a company that supplies dash and helmet cams.

So it's not my video but it's been more widely posted on social media now so it should be possible to identify an 'owner'.

So, while the cyclist isn't blameless her actions are waaaaaaaay down the shit behaviour chart imo.

True, hence "degrees of shit behaviour."

I condone neither.

Totally agree with her right up to the point where she does 'criminal damage' to his van.

I think her response is perfectly reasonable given the circumstances she was under.

We all know the police wouldn't have bothered to act even on the evidence of the video.

Didn't realise that wing mirrors come off that easily, though! Will remember this in future for when I get an urge to beat a van driver to death with part of their own vehicle.

Fair play to her, guy on the bike should have intervened though rather than filming it.

Surely it's perfectly understandable rather than perfectly reasonable? If she'd punched the guy as he tried to touch her that would be reasonable because that would readily be self defence (in response to what would readily be perceived as a potential assualt). But doing it after the fact, when you're not in any danger, is simply retaliation and makes you no better than them.

Nah, she's very definitely better than them (Assuming this is real).

I must admit i've done similar, was commuting home from work and two lads in a Citreon thought it would just be funny to abuse me, first flicking a fag butt at my face as they went past, then when i chased them a McDonalds drink. They went straight through a red light at next junction as i was still chasing them, then when i started to catch them up as they got stuck in traffic (amid a lot more abuse and hand gestures) i lost my temper and unclipped and ran my cleat along his front wing as i went past. Not proud, but your adrenaline starts to boil and despite being a big lump of a guy you know you're gonna come off worse against a car.

In my mind she was completely justified, they purposively sought to block her way with their van and no-one deserves a tirade of abuse, male or female.

I don;t think there's any real reason to doubt it, they don't seem to just post 'adverts'

https://twitter.com/dash_camr

My mistake - they don;t appear to sell the things, just post the results.

Nobody really thinks like that do they? Seriously? Not in real life anyway. Only on the internet in my experience.

that was fantastic............well done to the young lady.

women should be allowed to carry a corrosive substance in a spray, for situations like that and other harassment. imho that is.

I'm guessing the 2 apes are no better disposed to either women or cyclists now. No offence to apes like.

I don;t think there's any real reason to doubt it,

The clarity of the audio makes me doubt it, along with the ease with which she ripped the mirror off, and the neatness of the whole thing.

I was making the point that anyone should be allowed to carry some form of corrosive substance with which to protect themselves in the face of aggression. I'm not sure why it would only be women for who that is acceptable.

I hope this is real.
Well done lass.

Once while cycling to work, a taxi pulled out into me, so I screamed. A few minutes later after huffing up a steep bend, I round a corner to see the taxi car parked up.
As I get nearer the driver with 3 passengers, leans out of his window, says "how could I have hit you with a f***ing, loud gob on a bitch like you".
Oh how big he must have felt in front of his big burly passengers. I was left shaking, then carried on quite a tearful journey onward to my place of work.

There was another incident with a male car driver a few years later. Luckily the bystanders/witnesses were fantastic and helped me. Also on that particular occasion there was a cycling bobby nearby, who came round to our house later to take a statement.

I think it fake, but still amused & if real they properly deserved it. Can you be "violent" towards an object ?

And if you'd ripped the mirror off his taxi in retaliation, would that make you as bad as him?

That woman on the bike shouldn't have to put up with that sort of shit under any circumstances, good on her for not being the passive victim.

The blokes in the van wouldn't have learnt a lesson from a bit of a talking too and i doubt they've learnt much from having the mirror forcibly adjusted for them but at least they've been inconvenienced which seems like too little punishment for the abuse and intimidation they bestowed on the cyclist.

I like to think of it as a fine for obnoxious behaviour.

DezB - when the taxi incident happened, it all seemed to be in slow motion and almost an out of body experience.

Hubby always said open the back passenger side door, which I couldn't do at that time, even if I had, nothing would have lowered me to his level, or made me that bad.

If it's real then fair play to her. Aggressive, horrible van men deserved worse. I only hope it was their van and not a company vehicle.

Or,

boss: what happened to the wing mirror?
cock 1: some woman on a bike knocked it off boss
boss: why
cock 1: cos she finks she owns the road, dunt pay no road tax, and we 'ad right of way, shouldn't even be there in the first place.
boss: Quite right. I'll phone the police and have her done for criminal damage. Hopefully someone got it on camera.

-cyclist gets prosecuted for criminal damage as it's an easy pull with the video proof on social media, and also gets a tazering to the face for answering back and not producing I.D.
