[#7942150]

back when you had to purchase an actual physical item to listen to some music and for no other reason than amusement....
What was the first single you ever bought?

Mine: T-Pau - China in your hand (1987)
I bought it in Boots and it cost me £1.10!

It was either "Hole in my Shoe" by Neil or "Run to the Hills (Live)" by Iron Maiden. I can't remember which one but both were on 7" and from WHSmiths

The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode, 99p on cassette with my own money, or the theme from Monkey on 7" but that would have been bought by my parents for me.

I still listen to both. 8)

"Grease is the word" from the film. I was about 6 1/2 at the time. I feel dirty now

It was from Dickenson Rd market in Longsight, near my Nanna's house. Is it still there?

New Order, Confusion.

I didn't buy it myself, but I was given it...there's an interesting backstory involving a flat sold at auction in Manchester and several piles of boxes.

Hey Fatty Boom Boom by Carl Malcolm in a long since gone record shop in North Cheam in 1975.

Can't recall the price.

Was never a 7 inch single buyer so don't recall exactly as they were just not significant to me, but had to buy Crass singles as they weren't on albums, so probably one of those, probably Big A little A.

Sparks - This Town ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us (1974 !)

Less cool perhaps was buying Waterloo from Abba

Some great songs above esp Town Called Malice but I think @dallas wins for T-Rex

Uptown Top Rankin by Althea and Donna on 7".

My first record player could play at 78rpm. The above sounded very amusing at that speed, as did the Smurf Song at 33 rpm

I have never bought a single.

I should explain that it was mostly because I didn't want to spend the money, I'd rather buy albums

I had a bunch of TV21 EP's with episodes from Stingray, Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5, which don't really count, and I can't remember if I actually bought those myself, or they were bought for me, but the first actual music 7" single I bought was Albatross by Fleetwood Mac, 1968, followed by Dragonfly, also by the Mac, in 1970.
Really didn't by much in the way of singles, used to buy albums on cassette, or tape stuff from the radio, holding the mic of my little Philips N2204 portable cassette recorder, or tape borrowed albums from mates.
