Add brambles and sugar leave for at least 6 months.
+1 for bramble whiskey... it’s bloody ace and a bog standard blended whiskey actually makes the best bramble whiskey
It's drinking whisky they don't call it fighting Mackay up here for nothing :). It's on a par with grouse as someone said it ok with ginger beer and a splash of lime.
Old Fashioned should be made with bourbon, they’re not the same with Scotch as it’s not as sweet.
That’s not to say it won’t be nice, just won’t really be an Old Fashioned.
Have we just invented the New Fangled?

There's a special place in hell for anyone who wastes good single malt on blackberries etc. I use cheap Aldi blended whisky and it works a treat.
Try it with ginger ale, a slice of orange and ice.
Also not vegan but divine...
Pasta, smoked salmon, peas, cream and a glass of whisky stirred through.

They'll get to look down from their place in hell upon the tormented souls of those who cast aspersions on what others choose to lawfully do with their own whisky.
In days of yore blends were valued for their reliable quality. You were paying a master blender to even it all out for you. But now that we're all seeking some kind of attachment in the screaming void of existence, we like the idea of single malts better.
I think it is quite nice with a dash of water, but if you can’t face that then how about Rusty Nails?
I'll second the rusty nail - years since I had one but absolutely amazing.....
Cranachan very nice.
As there is a fair amount of chrimbo talk may I suggest:
Whisky Lard
(similar to Eddie Hitlers Vodka Margarine)
Give them away as xmas pressies
Manhattans. Or Rob Roys as they're called if you use scotch rather than rye whisk(e)y.

I find that Old Fashioneds are sweet on account of the sugar in them. I'm sure you're technically right, but they're not so different with Scotch vs Bourbon in my humble (but quite well-practised) opinion.
a small nip of whisk(e)y to a Guinness/ ale gives it a new depth of flavour.
Not a full measure, just a little.
I use Jamesons Stout barrel aged whiskey in stouts and it is lovely.
Reckon the degreaser you have would work well in a similar environment
Bramble whiskey...
Then recycle the fruit into a Bramble and Apple crumble FTW 🤤🤤
Swap for a stash of Big Issues then cycle round delivering said Big Issues

Mug of whisky, lemsip, sliced ginger, fresh lemon juice and decent spoonful of manuka honey , you don’t need a sore throat to enjoy a toddy
Just because in 2 pages no one has picked up that this is a really stupid idea.
Do not mix paracetamol and alcohol!

Why not?
Pmsl tinas!

Maca Baileys surely!
Blending is a skill that far too many pretentious know it alls overlook without even trying them! There’s some bloody lovely ones out there.
As a wannabe pretentious know-it-all I haven't much knowledge of blended whiskey. I had a bottle of Monkey Shoulder for Christmas once, and it was a nice drop, but that's about the limit of my experience.
So! At risk of derailing OP's thread slightly, what am I missing out on? W&M is a given obvs, but what else?
Always used to like a bottle of J&B in my less pretentious days.
A few of the Johnnie Walkers are good. I really like the Green label. The old Gold label is beautiful and the XR 21 is fantastic! Blue label overpriced for what it is but still nice. If you buy one that doesn’t suit just stick some ginger ale in it!

Alternatively, times have changed and it's really easy to find good single malt. Unlike your sense of humour.
Nearly forgot the whisky mac, whisky mixed with ginger wine. Perfect winter tipple, also prescribed as a cold cure by the right doctors.
It’s ok stuff that, infinitely better than Teachers anyway.
I pick it up when it’s on offer, for sipping/mixing/cocktails. No point in putting good stuff in lemonade or coke, and even neat I can happily/accidentally smash through a quarter of a bottle in an evening.
Feel like shit in the morning though, not sure is the good stuff is any better hangover wise.
Edit - Whisky Mac! Yes! My top Christmas drink, perfect for that and winter is coming
Try it, perhaps with ice or water. Personally I’m quite partial to Chivas Regal.
That single malt you drink is a blend.
Very few folk drinking whisky will pick up a single barrel bottling. Though if you do and you like it, buy another because it’s never coming back, or simply enjoy as an ephemeral moment.

Well, when one starts out drinking spirits and all that’s around is Bells and Teachers, and Southern Comfort, then you get introduced to the likes of Laphroig and Lagavulin, then Highland Park, blends seem like a retrograde step, somehow.
FFS you lot, it's still August and you're already talking about Christmas 🙁
Have we just invented the New Fangled?
We have now 🙂
decent spoonful of manuka honey
Don't forget to add the magic beans too

On that note I have found whisky & tonic works well IMO with the slightly lower end of the blended ones.
Give it a try
It's no fancy single malt, but it will be very drinkable in a mixed drink.
Toddies, sours, or even, shocked face, a bit of cold 7up free and lemon for a low-cal easy drink.
Much better, but also much worse stuff out there!
