This is not meant to be a willy waving, four Yorkshiremen type post (I get up half an hour before I go to bed) but genuinely curious as to what people's routine is. I've found myself naturally waking around 5-5:30am and thinking it's too early so I should stay in bed - but I end up not sleeping well and feeling really groggy when I do finally get up (6:30-7am) that I suppose I should just get up when I first wake and go do something productive. Anyone else had a similar experience? Before Covid I'd be up about 6am most days to go training before work. Really found that difficult since lock down (though I did always enjoy being out at that time of day). Maybe this is my body telling me it's time to shake the post-lock down fug that I've been struggling with and get back to it.
05:25 or about 06:00 at the weekend
Have been doing it for years - for early morning swims, then kids, now work and kids.
4.30 Mon-fri, 5 Sat and between 7-8 Sun. Body clock tries to get me up earlier on Sunday but hangover usually wins...
Alarm goes off at 7 am most days, 6.45 on Saturday (as 8am meet for club ride).
Always awake before the alarm..
Half an hour before I need to leave the house, can be any time from 6 to noon.
If I didn't set an alarm I could easy make it to after 9 regardless of the time I go to bed the night before. Week days my alarm is set for justly after 7 to make sure the kids are up and moving although after a shitty bought of COVID last September I do now struggle to get in gear for a good 60 to 90 minutes after I open my eyes.
Alarms set for 06:45 but usually awake at 06:00 or a bit earlier, I have to be up at 07:00 latest, half an hour earlier when commuting by bicycle.
I don't miss having to get out of bed at 04:30.
4.30-5am Monday to Sunday. If I try and stay in bed longer I feel like crap for the rest of the day. On the flip side of that, I very rarely see 9.30-10pm any more.
Its a habit I got into when I commuted by bike 5 days a week, as I need 40 minutes every morning to stretch all my broken bits - bad back +sciatica, neck, hammies etc etc etc.
Even though I don't commute that often due to WFH a lot now, I still wake and get up. When it's not lashing down, I'll even try and get a ride in pre-work.
Between 5 and 5:30, it's the only way I can develop a consistent routine with physio/core maintenance exercises.
Also good training for summer ridibg when getting up at sunrise is the only way to fit big miles around family life, get a 4 hour ride in and pick up breakfast rolls for family on way back through town 😎
Half an hour before I need to leave the house,
Jesus christ. It takes me an hour and a half to get out the door these days. I can do under an hour but that feels rushed. I like a leisurely breakfast.
Tend to wake about half seven, up by quarter to eight, to avoid thought for the day. I'm rarely in bed before midnight. Fail to understand why some early morning folk - who are weak in the evenings let's be honest - think this gives them some sort of higher ground.
It is annoying that let's call it bike culture has a bit of an early morning tradition. You're missing out on the spring and summer evenings when the hills are deserted. Surfing likewise with our beat the crowd dawnies. Though that can me more tide dictated depending on where/when.
weekdays 7:45 except Wednesday when when I get up at 6:30 to go to yoga
Weekends as late as possible
During lockdown I used to get up at 9:25 and go straight into the 9:30 stand-up meeting
5 when I'm working, about 10.30 when I'm not.
I do like a lie in.
3.05 am Monday - Friday. Usually around 6 at weekends. I feel really rough if I sleep in any later than that
You’re missing out on the spring and summer evenings when the hills are deserted.
You bring some hills to me and I'll head out in the evenings 😉😂
Depends what I have planned. Rarely before 7. Could be 10 or later. OTOH I'm also late to bed/sleep. Always have been. Never before midnight.
when I want. Except on Fridays, when i get rudely awakened by the dustmen.
(lie. My bladder makes me get up about half three. My dog, around half six. My preference - not much after that, I'm not really one for a lie in and never have been. If there were medals for lying in, my wife and kids would have every one going. At my age you need to extract what you can from the day, there aren't that many left......)
5.30 ish usually - its a bugger because I am retired. I just do not sleep any longer than that. So of course I'm falling asleep on the sofa at 10pm.
I often have a nap - I mean siesta in the afternoon
When i was younger i was a night owl but no longer
Driving in - 6:25
Cycling in - 6:00
Weekends - 6:30 -7:00 ish depending on how much grief my body is giving me or if the bloody dog is making a din.
Around 6.00. If I do wake up earlier, which I do more often when it’s getting light, I will get a ride in before breakfast. Really sets me up for the day.
I have never been any good at staying up late, usually to bed before 10.30.
5:50 out with dogs by 6, weekend back for a read after breakfast but only 30mins or so.
Saying that I see the alarm every day. Lately I'm awake at 0400. Stupid unwanted promotion.
4am weekdays as I start work at 6 and it's an hour's drive there. Weekends it can be anything from 4am to 10am depending on what I have to do and how knackered I am from a week's work. Need to get that all fixed as I'm constantly tired recently and struggle to relax.
When I was working it was 6:25, unless I had to get an early flight or train to somewhere. Now it's 7:15ish.
I get out of bed at 6:50am.
Drink two mugs of coffee while reading the internet, eat breakfast, shower, run dog and then start work at 9am.
This morning I got woken by the dog at 5am. Had to let her out. Then I fell asleep - sort of - until the alarm went.
If i get up at 5am I need to go back to bed at 10am !
Bedtime is 10pm and I normally last five minutes of reading if I'm lucky. If I make it to 7am I'm very pleased but generally between 630 and 7am. As soon as my mind is awake I'm up and out, I dont lie and snooze, I'd rather get down on the sofa and munch my breakfast and cuppa.
Seems I'm not typical, maybe I'm still a teenager.
Alarm about 8 when I'm working from home which is 95% of the time. I tend to stay up later than I should but try to get get 8 hours.
5:55 alarm Monday to Friday
5:55 at the weekend because god hates me.
8am , but would be later if it wasn't for those pesky kids
Half six alarm Monday to Friday, cos need to be up to walk the dog for an hour before work, put washing on etc.
Eight on a Friday, as MrsIHN doesn't work Fridays so she can do dog duties later in the morning.
Normally wake about eight/half eight at the weekend.
My alarm is a simulated sunrise with philips hue bulbs, which takes about half an hour to go from a low red light to bright white. That starts at 6 and I usually wake up after 15 to 20 mins. I have shutters on my windows so no early light sneaks in in summer. I usually go to bed around 10pm
Apparently everyone's body clocks work in 90 minute cycles, and we should sleep in a multiple of 90 mins. Finding the right time for yourself and then sticking to it consistently is meant to be best for long term health and feeling refreshed.
Some early birds but be also interesting to know when folk go to bed
WFH and my kids are older now so in the last few months Ive slipped back to staying in bed until about 8:00 and go to bed between 23:30-midnight
9 or 10 if I can, early mornings are miserable.
7am. same time as before i retired.
i have a 3 year old alarm clock grandson who makes sure i dont sleep longer.
7:15am weekdays, early enough for whatever I have planned at the weekends
15 mins before I have to leave the house on work days so usually 0730. On other days, whenever I'm hungry.
Wake up around 0430, get up at 0500. Have done since I stopped having to get up at 0330 to go to by produce and flowers at the wholesale market in Brum 20+ years ago
6.15am in the week.
Struggle to lie-in much past 7.00am at weekends.
6 - 6.30. I always set my alarm for 6.45 (just in case) and I’m always awake well before it. Soon as I’m awake I’m indulging in the breakfast of champions… caffeine and nicotine. The B&H were replaced by an E-cig many years ago, but I still start the day stood with the back door open and an Americano 😃
06:00. I am amazed at people who say they get up at 06:00 and do training before work. I don't start work particularly early but need to be up to get to work get kids up etc.
but I still start the day stood with the back door open and an Americano
It takes two Americanos to open my back door in the morning.
After getting up before 4 am as a postie for donkeys years now I’m retired wake up 6/7 o clock make a cuppa then take it back up to bed until 8 o clock 👌
Around 6:30 when commuting on the bike into the office, about 7:30 when WFH. Weekends usually 8-9am
Alarm goes off at 6 in the week, 7 most weekends for kids stuff or club rides.
I tend to wake at 6 most mornings, but roll over and go back off no problem at weekends. I think 7 is my natural "time", after 7-8 hours sleep.
I may have had a power nap mid morning today. It was a very dull 2.5 hour presentation and I'd decided to watch it propped up in bed rather than have the heating on...
No matter how hard I try (either to get up early or to lie in) I'm almost always up at 7. Same when I was working full time.
Usually wake between 5.30 and 6 then doze a bit.
In bed around 10.30, 20 mins reading, out like a light.
