I know the "correct" answer is to go to the bloody hospital, but I ain't got time. (might make the hobble in clinic tonight)
Came up massively short on a big (24') double on Saturday. Got bucked and thrown some distance, seemed to land on my hands and head/shoulder. Thought I'd trashed one or both wrists, but everything seemed to settle down once I'd got my breath back. Ankle was a little sore, but nothing to worry about - asumed I'd just caught it as the bike went past.
Rode all day Sunday - did Hope to Langsett via Cut Gate, and a bit of cheeky stuff. Ankle was a wee bit sore, but nothing to worry about - certainly didn't affect my riding in any way.
Yesterday it was proper sore - hobbling. Riding was distictly uncomfortable. Today it's ****ing agony. Decided to drive in to work, but by halfway working the clutch was a gritted teeth effort.
Its the inside "lump" on the joint - very tender to the touch, especially around the front/top. Bruising is coming out, and it's a bit swollen. It sort of works when it's warmed up, but if I'm stationary at all it "sets" and is then really painful to put any weight on.
Any guesses? Can't believe it's broken as surely I would never have been able to walk on it? Bad sprain?
Work wise, I'm completely stuffed at the moment - a big project happening this coming weekend which will involve 3 18+ hour days on my feet on site, and the rest of this week, whilst mostly office bound is still mega hectic... I just really do not have time to be broken. ๐
Sounds like a broken bone in the foot. You need an X-ray.
You've f...ed it. We could of course have a guess exactly what it is you've done based on diagnostic information supplied over the internet, but it's just possible that proper medical staff at the hospital who can examine you themselves might do a better job.
Aracer is right - sounds donald ducked to me.
Quite possibly a break. X ray time unless it settles in the next few hours.
Walk in minor injuries clinic if your local hospital has one, a nurse can x ray and have fiddle with it. It's possible you've damaged the tendon, but best to check it's not broken.

Perhaps in hindsight not exactly the right things to be doing then ? ๐

If you could. Pretty please. With sugar on the top...? ๐
Tragically1969 - I find if I start worrying about stuff like that when I'm riding, then it's a sure fire way to go about spannering myself. If I just ride "normally" (ie flat out), I'm far less likely to get it wrong, than if I start worrying about "what if's". As I've just proved though, sometimes, it just goes wrong anyway. ๐
The idea of ending up in a cast at the mo, really, really does not appeal. I've just got a vaguely decent level of fitness, the mojo is working, and to be a rasberry ripple, needing someone to wait on me hand and foot, cuz' I can't ride and can't drive. Let alone the mental state I'm going to be in without riding/hard excercise. Nope. Not gonna happen

As opposed to those times when the idea of at least 6 weeks not riding or walking is high on the list.
Again... big jumps, not wanting to get injured (or accepting that it's a strong possibility), is slightly daft.

You may have broken your ankle FFS, they're not gonna take off both your arms and legs. Get a grip.
I 'ignored' a hurt wrist for 3 days, but it started going black so went home (from Cornwall) and got an Xray. It was shattered and needed a cast for 3 months from my fingers to my shoulder.
You need an Xray, Xbox & rehabilitation.
24 inches or foot? ๐
Jon Edwards - don't be a plonker. If its broken you need many weeks off the bike or risk ending up with a permanent disability
it started going black
๐
Get it checked! It sounds like you might have agitated it by using it afterwatrds (i.e was a little bit broken...now a more serious break) or could equally be anything else because I'm not a doctor ๐
Hope it turns out to be minor but a treated broken ankle will heal much faster than if you leave it!
Good luck and keep us informed!

I accept it's a possibility. IF you're not good enough. If I'm attempting it, then I WILL BE good enough. (Except I wasn't). Don't expect proper logic. Expect Jon logic. It's all about confidence, or at the moment - lack of it.
Get a grip.
You don't know quite how much I rely on excercise for (vague) mental stability - I usually ride at least 6 days 100+miles a week . But I hate gyms. Walking, riding, possibly even running if I have to will all do the job. Guess what I can't do. Thrashing myself senseless is what I do for "relaxation".

I know what an X-ray is. What's an X-box? Is it like one of those new fangled tellyvisual things? Don't have one of them. I've got a Gramophone with a big horn - is it like that?

Don't leave it too late, around my way the walk in doesn't have X-ray outside office hours. The fact it's now going black isn't unusual, deep bruisng can take several days to develop.
RICE it asap, but use decent compression, a proper length of something like tubigrip sized properly from toes to knee in a double layer.

It'll be the same thread but wrist strain next week........ ๐ฏ
Sounds like you'll be thrashing yourself blind if you have broken something and are forced to take it easy for a few weeks.
Change hands... That prevents both blistering and over developed muscles in one arm.
Oh, and go to the hospital you muppet.

Well it clearly doesn't work. You'll be fine. Get a turbo trainer and ride one legged if that big an issue.
