My wife tried riding with spd's but causes knee pain. She's using toe grips but is struggling to find a good stiff soled shoe. Any recommendations?

Thanks for any ideas.

Toe clips are awful.

SPDs don't cause knee pain, there's probably something else going on - most likely saddle too low? Or cleats in the wrong position?

I use toe clips and beartraps on my tourer, because spd's cause ME knee pain too.
specialised sonama or Tahoe are good with clips.

Toe traps gave my wife knee pain- because they are lethal and she fell of at a junction. Your SPDs need setting up properly, or saddle height. Get thee to a proper roadie bike shop and they'll sort the position out.

Thanks ton, We'll have a look at the specialized.
She's tried with spuds for quite a while, different positions and set ups, but just doesn't like them. She's happy with the toe clips, so who am i to argue!
I did mention flats and five tens, but she's not keen on that idea.

I found using spd touring pedals helped massively with knee pain.
