Trickers brogues or monkey boot would be my shout, a big one off spend but it's once, and paid back for in time v cheaper pairs, I like how they look better over time, not worse.

This is really the only overly spendy thing I fork out for, I don't have a matching Rolly or anything but British made and worth it for me.

Scarpa Cyrus (not the new Cyrus 2 version) if you can still find a pair. Quite wide fitting, smart looking and virtually indestructible.

This is what I wear. They are 10 years old+ and still smart enough. They have the added bonus of being waterproof

Various Timberland boots - not the classic honey monster ones, more the nice chukka or chelsea boots. So comfy and really rather durable for 'cheap' boots.

Not forgetting the golden rule though… your taste in trainers is set in aspic as what you were wearing when you turned 18. It’s just wrong to wear anything designed after that.

I do still have a soft spot for these bad boys, but... hmmm... not sure I'd be wearing them now.

What really blows me away is that i paid £65 for them!  At age 17!  Adjusted for inflation that's about £130!

Camper Pelotas?

Seem to go with most trousers, jeans, etc.  Not shorts though, well at least not with my skinny ankles.

Edit - reasonably wide in the forefoot as well.

Does nobody else get sweaty feet in trainers?

Like i have no real objection to them. But for general wearing in the office for example a leather or canvas etnies choice feels alot more breathable.

And the Portuguese work boots also manage to actually ne waterproof to the tongue and weather proof above so. Without any nonsense goretex etc.

I've looked at Camper shoes so often - they're bordering on the right level of "different" and looking a bit speshul. I'll check Vinted for options. I'd spend the money if I was convinced.

Thanks. These look good to replace the 5:10s. Half price in Tredz - done!

Nipping to the pub. Converse / DC Converse-a-likes / black on black Adidas (Gazelles obviously)

Going for a meal with Mrs Noise. As above but maybe also black patent DMs

Suited and (literally) booted. Underground winklepicker Chelsea Boots. Or Ghillie Brogues if the kilt comes out.

Work is Blunnies, and day to day is very 'worn in' (worn out) Adidas walking boots.

But yeah, pretty much what the answer might have been when I was 18...

(although back then the DMs were flowery lace covered ones, the winklepickers were cheap suede ones from Camden, and the DCs were fat skate shoes).

trainers are for manchildren or menchild...........

I endorse this message.

Mostly because when the zombies or invasion happens those types who like their leather soled 'proper' shoes will make slow moving targets while those of us who prefer functional footwear make good our escape.

I admire your selflessness.

Yes, they do seem to have got even more pricey but they are well made and will last.

Aspic? Really? Doesn't sound very, erm, permanent. But vaguely edible.

Going out on a limb here,

The OP wants to go out with shoes on both his limbs though.

Teva if its hot.

Salamon XA Pro 3D for most of the year (worn to work too as I'm now of an age where I have more work and jobs offers than I can possibly deal with, am employed for my technical abilities not dress sense, my customers engage my services for my technical abilities not dress sense... and couldn't give a toss about anyone who thinks my attire is more important than my technical abilities).

Meindl brown leather 'philadelphia' goretex approach shoes if it's piishing down or muddy on the way to the pub. As they're waterproof.
