What scissors for home barber?

Mrs Seadog has become a dab hand at giving me a hair cut since the dark days of lockdown.ย  I'm an easy to please customer, as its nearly all done with a clipper and various sizes of grading combs.

A few bits get a quick snip and trim.ย  However, she could do with a nicer pair of scissors.

Anybody here in the business that can tell me what I should buy so as not to over spend or get ripped off?

As with all things the prices go from cheap and cheerful to eyewatering.

Something midpriced from Amazon, about 20 quid will get you good ones.ย

Can I ask, if you are mostly using clippers, which part of the haircut are you needing scissors for?

As a barber I have different scissors for different jobs.

For scissor over comb, a longer pair give more control, 6-6.5"

For almost everything else, 5 to 5.5" is perfect but with tips that aren't too pointed.

For close work where I want to be more precise, such as the outline, I use 5.5" but with a nice sharp tip.

So maybe a 5-5.5" with a pointed tip for detailing would be a good choice.

I don't generally need to do this but an easy way to finesse/cheat your blend, a fine pair of thinners can help with this.

I use Yasaka but as suggested, for occasional use, just check out the reviews on Amazon.

If its for the outline, a cordless T trimmer is probably a better choice.

I find a finger rest adds stability too.
