Time for new helmet for my Motor bike. Would like a built in sun vizor the flip down type.
Budget about £300. What are people using.
I commute daily and wind noise is always a factor especialy after my last company hearing test (getting.. old shouldnt ride a bike..)
Currently using a Arai which is very good, the vents actually work. But the sunvisor model is awful.
Been looking at the Shark speed series, looks good fairly comfortable to wear.
Any others to look at?
Something that fits really nicely. Always was an Arai man myself, don't know if they still do the post-crash safety testing but that basically doubled the life of my first one, I'd have thrown any lesser helmet in the bin believing it dead. (they replaced the strap and lining for free too). No flipdown visor though- I had a reactive pinlock thing in mine, and a dark visor to hand.
Always liked the Airwolf dropdown visor on Cabergs.
I have a Caberg V2R visor works well. Wind noise is bad unless you put a buff round your neck though.
It's a tough one but I went with the starting point that I only have one head.... So the fit was the most important, then the like to have features....
I had a good history with shoei, fit wise, so that's what I got.
Pretty much always go back to Arai meself although have had various AGV in the past - thats not to say all AGVs are ace just some of them.
Was looking at a Shark S900 the other day quite nice but some of the details were a bit flimsy compared to Arai.
Also impressed with HJCs latest offering (RPHA 10?). Right up there with Arai in terms of quality but non-Lorenzo models look a bit boring
I've always had 2 visors, clear and dark. I've looked at the ones with the flip down visors and didn't think much to them. I've never felt the need to change visor mid journey so I didn't bother. I used to wear Arai but switched to Shoei and they are quieter due mainly to the lack of side pods over the visor.
I do a LOT of motorbike miles too (5200 miles so far this year) I think the quality of the helmet is more important than an integral sun visor.
LS2... try one
Hmm I find my shoei very noisy. Mind you if it bothers and you are riding for a length of time you ought to wear ear plugs
Had a Bell which was one of the comfiest for me. It saved my life too. It was noisy though so needed ear plugs.
Currently using an HJC and it's very good as well, quieter but not quite as comfy.
Tried a Shark a while ago and it the comfiest by far but I was skint so didn't get it but I plan to soon.
But that's all on my melon, you really need to try some on.
Fit, a good/known name and lightness are key for me - plus don't spend so much that you aren't happy to throw away if you damage it (amazing how many scarred helmets you see).
And ear plugs, buy a big box and change often/daily.
I'm a big Shark fan, as much as anything for the stupidly easy visor change mechanism. I generally use a dark visor but carry a clear one in case of a change in the weather or I end up out after dark. 30 seconds to change over on my Shark RSI. I also have an HJC with an integral sun visor and I'm not a fan. My wife however loves the drop down visor on her lid.

I think everyone who saw my old Arai (a Condor I think) knew for a fact it was totalled and I'd have to be insane to ride in it, but I've still got the bit of paper that says it's fine. I reckon helmets are more durable than we give them credit for.
(course, if in any doubt, I'd still replace!)
Thread hijack - although it pains me I need to get rid of my black/white Arai Banda. Size Medium, excellent nick, not had much use. Genuine Arai clear, smoke and dark visors plus a few pinlocks, clear and yellow, Arai visor holder that goes round your waist. Visor mechanism grease, helmet bag, full works basically. Would like £200 plus postage, email in profile. Give me a mo and I'll whore a photo of me wearing it at Snetterton before my third nipper arrived and spoiled my motorbike related fun
It really is the one that fits the best? Shoei for me and change visors, mine is very quiet. James races in a Shark, we buy them in the sales, new one each season, around £100 (half price or less), he likes them because they are tight. We keep a Lidl flip up by the front door that has the drop down tints, these lids are £35 (come with a spare visor - my Shoei visors cost more than this!) these get good safety reviews - it's the grab on the way out when just nipping up the road and not worrying about where you put it down. Yet to use its tints though.
Ah, happy days.....

Ive got a Shark s700 with flipdown visor. Added a pinlock anti fog insert and been very happy. Never tried a more expensive helmet so can't compare I'm afraid.
Shoei for me, they fit me really well. I had an AGV GP Tech (dog ate it!!) & an Arai RX7 prior to the Shoei & neither were as comfortable or fitted as well. The shoei is really well made too. I think they do a version with a drop down black visor in it too now, maybe the Quest?
Arai fit mt piggy head so well, AGV had my snout against the chin bar. Recently tried a Shoei MX lid and it was perfect would defect to them if the need arose.
What ever fits schuberth was the best ive ever had but plain. Hjc nice comfy and light. Aria best all round if you include graphics. Agv looked the best by far. But im a rossi fan. But it was loud.
At end of day its down to shape of your head
